There is no denying how popular the Attack on Titan franchise is, both in Japan as well as abroad. As is often the case with popular shows and franchises, other studios try to recreate its fame. The "new" plot and characters are basically a replica of the original plot characters, except that they have different locations, timelines, names and faces.

It is the same case with Attack on Titan, and while there have been many anime that have been inspired by it, there are anime that are complete rip-offs of the show.

10 Black Bullet

Black Bullet's cast.

In an unknown timeline in the future, a virus attack caught humanity by surprise, killing most of it. Whatever humanity remains, lives behind “anti-viral” walls.

Some children were eventually born with tiny amounts of the virus in their bloodstreams, thanks to which they possess superhuman powers. These children are then paired with Promoters, whose only task is to protect these children, as they are humanity’s only hope against defeating the virus.

9 Knights Of Sidonia

The earth was destroyed and it killed most of humanity with it. Those who survived, found a new planet to make their home. Nagate Tanikaze is en route to his new home when he wakes up from his hypersleep to find aliens and humans caught in a deadly battle.

It is only up to Nagate and his crewmates to save the human soldiers, who clearly are on the losing side of this battle.

8 The Promised Neverland

Although humanity isn’t extinct here, this anime has a very similar feel to Attack on Titan. Both shows have heavy world-building, have characters that are full of mysteries and dark secrets, as well as supernatural creatures that terrorize humans.

The essence of both shows is also the survival of humans against these inhuman creatures, and the extent to which some people will go for their personal freedoms.

7 Claymore

Clare from Claymore

This anime takes place in a fantasy alternate reality, where the world is overrun by creatures known as Yomu. They go from village to village, terrorizing and killing every human that comes in their way. The humans are helpless and their numbers are dwindling.

The only things that can stop these creatures are Claymores – an army of female warriors who are half-human and half-yomu. One Claymore named Clare, however, has her plans sidetracked when a young boy decides to tag along with her.

6 Parasyte: The Maxim

Parasyte -The Maxim-

Earth is facing an alien invasion, and these parasitic aliens are taking over the brains of humans, thus having complete control over their bodies. With their numbers increasing day by day, and no way to tell them apart from regular humans, fighting them has become next to impossible.

The only hope humanity has is in young Shinichi, whose parasite was only able to take over his right hand. Now, the two must fight together for their (as well as humanity’s) survival.

5 World Trigger

World Trigger

Mikado City faces an unexpected onslaught of aliens that cannot be harmed by traditional human weapons. The Border Defense Agency is created to combat this menace, and despite several years having passed, humanity is no closer to getting rid of these creatures.

With their city constantly being attacked by these aliens, and more and more humans becoming victims to their onslaughts, can the powerful “Triggers” be the solution to this problem?

4 Seraph Of The End

Guren fighting Mika Seraph Of The End

Coming from the same studio as Attack on Titan, it’s no surprise that Seraph is basically the vampire version of AoT. Humanity has almost been decimated due to unknown reasons, and vampires have taken over the world.

Humans live inside walls/colonies, safe from vampires, but constantly in search of new ways to defeat an enemy that is very clearly stronger and more cunning than them.

3 Schwarzesmarken

Schwarzesmarken

The 666th TSF squadron is a deadly band of humans that slaughters anybody (even humans) that come in the way of their mission: to eliminate the BETA aliens that are swarming all over the earth.

Taking place in 1983, the anime doesn’t shy away from showing bloody deaths and violence on screen. Like Attack on Titan, the series also eventually gives way to political turmoil, infighting, betrayals, and struggles within humanity’s best squadron.

2 Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress

Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress

Kabaneri is the zombie-steampunk version of Attack on Titan. Humanity is boxed inside walls and has been safe for very long. Except for that one fateful day, when zombies were mysteriously let loose, killing whoever stood in their way.

Both shows have a determined male lead who never knows when to give up. His life is often saved by a female deuteragonist that possesses extraordinary skills for a mere human being. If the story sounds exceptionally familiar, it’s because this show too is from WIT Studios.

1 God Eater

God Eater Anime

This show is Ufotable’s attempt at creating what is clearly a science-fiction version of Attack on Titan. In the distant future, humanity is almost extinct due to creatures called Aragami. The Fenrir organization stands between these creatures and humanity’s annihilation.

Everybody's only hope is the young, rebellious, and hot-headed Lenka Utsugi, but he must master his God Arc weapon before he can even think of killing any Aragami.
