Sometimes, anime heroes are heroes just in name. Their actions are at par, if not worse than those of the bad guys around them. The reasons behind such actions could be plenty, ranging from childhood trauma that made characters choose the evil path or the fact that the anime studio decided to opt for a villainous character as the hero (main character) of the show.
Fans usually love to hate such characters. The best examples of characters (who often divide anime fans strictly into two distinct groups) include Light Yagami from Death Note and Lelouch from Code Geass. However, they aren’t anime’s only “good guys” that have done terrible deeds.

As a child, Shouya mercilessly bullied Shouko. The nicer she was to him, the more he was annoyed and he would constantly bully her not only verbally, but physically as well.
The breaking point was when he pulled out her hearing aids so brutally that she began bleeding. Many people paid the price for young Shouko being bullied, including Ueno and Kazuki, with Shouya paying the heaviest price.

Shiro and Ganta seem to be unaware of the fact that the only reason Ganta was in prison was because of Shiro’s alternate identity, the Wretched Egg, which took control over her body and slaughtered Ganta’s entire class.
The reason behind this transformation of hers was illegal and extremely inhumane experimentations performed on her by Ganta’s mother, whose end game was never explored in the anime.

The genius duo decided to create an AI that resembled a teenage girl. However, this AI ended up killing Acca’s wife and his daughter.
Ura-Acca admitted to having ignored the signs that he saw, and instead of taking responsibility for his inaction, he let Acca physically manhandle, abuse, and restrain the girl within a tiny box inside his basement, for an unknown number of years.

He grew up to become the bearer of justice for people from poorer sections of society, which essentially ended with them killing the rich people who had wronged them.

Strong and determined, Lin Xianming left behind his hellish childhood to earn money the best way he knew how –by killing people. He worked as a freelance assassin for the Kakyuu Association and would have continued to do so if his boss hadn’t betrayed him.
Lin did not show any regret or mercy while killing his targets because for him, they were a means to an end, and the ends were his payment for every kill that he made.
