Seeking a much-needed reprieve, Yuugo transfers to an agricultural school in rural Hokkaido.

Assassination Classroom has one of the most absurd concepts ever seen, even by anime standards. The core premise is about a class of middle schoolers who are tasked with assassinating their teacher before he destroys the world. That, and their teacher is a yellow tentacled monster whom they dubbed as Korosensei.

Bizarre premise aside, Assassination Classroom is a fun poignant series, largely thanks to the likable Korosensei. He's still a teacher, and it's his job to help his students improve themselves. Korosensei imparts valuable life lessons that his students (and even the viewer) can apply in their daily lives, even as they try to kill him.

5 My Love Story (2015)

My Love Story is, what its name implies, a love story. Only this time, the story features one of the unlikeliest romances ever seen in anime. The series follows the blossoming romance between Takeo Goda and Rinko Yamato. On the surface level, these two are nothing alike: Takeo is a towering mass of muscle and Rinko is small and petite. And yet, they forged a beautiful relationship.

Sure, seeing their relationship is certainly heartwarming, but there's no denying that Takeo himself is the real gem here. His charisma and selfless nature are so inspiring and he lights up the screen whenever he's on. He's earned the respect of his male classmates and he'll no doubt earn the respect and adoration of anime fans of all stripes.

4 Yuri On Ice (2016)

The romance just keeps on coming! Yuri On Ice won the hearts of not just the anime community, but people worldwide. Professional figure skaters have even praised the show for its accuracy. While not everyone is a fan of professional figure skating, Yuri On Ice will still draw you in with its harmonious music and lovable cast of characters.

After losing in a tournament, the main protagonist Yuri discards his skating career. Fortunately, with help from his hero Viktor, Yuri makes a glorious comeback. Throughout his journey, he regained his passion for skating and found love.

3 Haikyu!! (2014- )

It's now time for the romance genre to pass the baton onto the sports genre. If there's one genre that'll sure to evoke some feel-good emotion, it'd be the sports anime. Haikyu!! is a long-running shounen series from Haruichi Furudate. As to be expected from a sports anime, the series follows the adventures of a high school volleyball team.

2 Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (2007)

From Gainax, the studio that gave the anime community the irreplaceable Neon Genesis Evangelioncomes another original mecha anime. Unlike its philosophically charged predecessor, Gurren Lagann swaps deep introspection in favor of pure bombastic action and a feel-good tone.

The series is set in a post-apocalyptic future, where humanity is driven underground by the tyrannical Lordgenome. Now, it's up to brothers Simon and Kamina to liberate mankind with the power of belief. Gurren Lagann is for anyone who needs to remember that they must believe in themselves.

1 My Hero Academia (2016)

Only those living under a rock have never heard about My Hero Academia. This insanely popular shounen series about superheroes has taken the anime by storm, earning a legion of fans with its memorable characters, stellar animation, and heartfelt story.

Watching the story of Izuku Midoriya striving to become the no.1 hero is truly inspiring and would even put a smile on Thanos's face. Making everything better is the return of Haikyu!! composer Yuki Hayashi, who once again brings another rousing score that includes the series's staple song, "You Say Run."
