When an anime series is amazing, viewers become incredibly invested in the story. They fall in love with the characters, they want to be immersed in the world, and they want the best possible ending. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for some series.

There are several reasons why the quality of a series might deteriorate. An illogical story, poor animation, the death of a favorite character, so on and so forth. Other times, there may be very subjective reasons why people quit watching a particular series. But there are a few anime that have made viewers rage quit for legitimate reasons.

10 Aldnoah.Zero - An Amazing First Season With A Questionable Sequel

Aldnoah.Zero

Aldnoah.Zero is an anime series about the humans that settled on Mars and discovered more advanced technology than anything on Earth. This lead to the formation of the Vers Empire of Mars and a declaration of war against the people who stayed behind on Earth, known as the Terrans.

This series started out with an incredible first season with many viewers waiting on the edge of their seats for more. Then the second season aired. There were many things that went wrong here that caused people to rage quit - a bloody love triangle that ended with Inaho and Princess Asseylum supposedly being killed (only to end up somehow surviving) and Slaine becoming a warmonger that absolutely no one liked. All of the things that everyone loved in the first season were thrown away in the second season.

9 Fate/Stay Night - A Subpar Adaptation With Awful Animation

Saber In Fate/Stay Night

Fate/Stay Night follows the story of Shirou, who becomes a Master in the Fifth Holy Grail War. As the name of the war suggests, the grand prize is the Holy Grail - an omnipotent object that can grant any wish.

Throughout the series, the relationship between Shirou and his Servant, Saber, develops and blossoms into something more romantic. Just when things appear to be heading towards the climax of their relationship, something viewers were anxiously waiting for, they were instead rewarded with a poorly rendered CGI Dragon. It was already a monumental task adapting a visual novel into an anime, but this was the last straw for many viewers.

8 Overlord III - Fan Favorite Anti-Hero Turns Out To Be A Villain

Ainz is shocked

For two entire seasons, fans of Overlord watched as Ainz Ooal Gown made a home in this alternative world that resembled Yggdrasil, a virtual reality game that the protagonist used to play. Viewers watched as Ainz continued to discover more about this world while making a few questionable decisions. But that invoked the thought that Ainz was more of an anti-hero than a hero.

That is until Overlord III. It’s here that the series began to lose fans because, as it turns out, Ainz doesn’t flinch at his decisions that lead to heroes dying horribly. Everything that fans knew and loved about Overlord was put into question with this season.

7 Death Note - The Death Of A Beloved Main Character

L From Death Note Sitting In Signature Position

Death Note is an incredibly popular anime series that focuses on Light Yagami, a high school student that finds the God of Death’s Death Note, a notebook where anyone whose name is written inside of it will die. This makes for an interesting dynamic between Ryuk, the God of Death, and Light.

But what really drove people away from this series was the death of L, Light's nemesis. Even though he started out as a villain, he soon took over Light's role as the hero of the story. Not only was he one of the most important characters of the series, but he was a beloved one that helped make the show incredible.

6 Pokemon - Hard Work And Pokémon Type Advantages Don't Mean A Thing

Ash's Greninja bonded with him

For many viewers, Pokémon has been the anime that they’ve grown up with. There isn’t much to hate about amazing creatures that can be befriended and battled with. Over the years, viewers have experienced the highs and lows with Ash Ketchum and have rejoiced when he was able to persevere through his struggles.

What Pokémon fans weren’t able to accept was Ash’s defeat at the hands of Alain in Pokémon XYZ because Ash should have been the clear winner. Ash had the Pokémon type advantage with his Greninja as the battle was against a Mega Charizard. Because of this, and the fact that Ash took so many years to finally win a League Championship, many fans stopped watching this series.

5 Charlotte - A Great Start To A Supernatural Series With A Rushed Ending

Charlotte Anime Main Cast Walking Yuu Misa and Tomori

Charlotte is a supernatural anime series about Yuu Otosaka, a teenager with the ability to slip into people’s minds for five seconds and control them. When he’s caught using his abilities, he’s coerced into enrolling into Hoshinoumi Academy, a school for students with supernatural abilities. He’s also tasked with joining the student council, a group of people tasked with tracking down kids with supernatural abilities who are abusing them, much like Yuu had done.

Viewers loved this series right up until the end of the season where an entire “save the world” plot was thrown in. It was rushed and it disregarded all of the story's previous developments. This ending upset and annoyed many viewers, thus, driving them away.

4 Gurren Lagann - Killing A Main Character For The Sake Of Another

Anime Gurren Lagann Kamina Draws Blade

Gurren Lagann is an incredibly popular anime series. But that’s no surprise considering it’s full of adventure, an all-powerful mecha named Gurren Lagann, and incredible characters – one of which being the main character, Kamina. Everyone fell in love with him because of his brash attitude and inspiring nature.

Unfortunately, those who favored this outgoing character were in shock when he was suddenly killed off to make way for Simon. This means that those who stuck around to watch Kamina in action had no reason to continue watching the show. Yes, his death was necessary to spur Simon onwards and develop his character, but many fans didn’t approve of Kamina’s early end.

3 Dragon Ball GT - Turning Goku Back Into A Child To Relive The Glory Days

Kid Goku "training" (grounding coffee) in Dragon Ball GT

Throughout the Dragon Ball series, fans have witnessed Goku as a kid and his progression into an adult. Viewers have seen him grow and develop, not only physically but mentally. Not only that, but his powers have also grown exponentially since the very beginning.

So, when Goku was transformed into a child again in Dragon Ball GT, fans were not impressed. Not only did it seem like the production team was trying to revive a storyline that had already been done and was incredibly nostalgic to viewers, but it was bland, boring, and incredibly underwhelming.

2 Hunter X Hunter - An Unnecessary And Unusual Reincarnation

hunter x hunter gon killua kite

Hunter x Hunter is an anime series that follows Gon Freecss, a twelve-year-old boy who takes the Hunter exam in hopes of finding his father who went missing. On the way, he meets three others who are also looking to take the exam and they become a tight-knit group. It’s an amazing anime filled with adventure and laughter.

What fans weren’t expecting, however, was the death of Kite, one of Gon’s friends and the reason he became a Hunter in the first place. They also weren't too fond of Kite’s reincarnation into a girl. Not only did this undermine Gon’s need for revenge against Pitou, but his reincarnation as a girl seemed rather phoned in. After this, many fans quit watching this popular series.

1 Sword Art Online - Thousands Of Senseless Deaths For No Logical Reason

sao sword art online supporting character Akihiko Kayaba

With the use of NerveGear, gamers were able to experience MMORPGs as if they were there in the game. Unfortunately for the people playing the titular "Sword Art Online," they were held hostage in this game by Akihiko Kayaba, the man behind the game. Throughout the series, fans watched the characters struggle with surviving and existing in a world that wasn’t their own, waiting on the edge of their seats for the moment when Kirito (one of the strongest characters) could confront and defeat Kayaba.

Kayaba's motivations turned out to be nothing more than a series of barely sensible excuses lacking logical reasoning. The confrontation between the two didn’t live up to the hype. Kayaba had no reason for his actions that killed thousands of people. It was at that point, fans gave up on the series.
