Not all anime characters find love in their shows. Even when they do, it may not be perfect, it may feel lacking. It may even feel like a character from another series would be a much better match for them. It’s a big fictional world out there and shipping doesn’t need to be limited by rules like "they have to be in the same universe."
Rather than that, the options are endless when you bring other shows to the mic. A character could have a perfect match just one parallel universe away. Here are 10 great choices for characters who would be great together.
10 Yuno (Black Clover) & Momo Yaoyorozu (My Hero Academia)
Despite being high school age, Yuno and Momo are shown to be very intelligent and incredibly level-headed heroes of their respective series. Both possess similar forms of “creation” abilities, Yuno can use wind magic to shape objects and Momo can create any material object as long as she understands its molecular structure.
If the two of them used their abilities together, they would be able to come up with a plethora of combinations using wind and materials, leaving enemies with no chance. Their calm demeanor, over-all understanding of their own abilities and that of others, would make Yuno and Momo an unstoppable team.
9 Megumi Takani (Rurouni Kenshin) & Jin (Samurai Champloo)
Megumi and Jin would be brought together by their dark past. Jin, who was forced to kill his master in self-defense, and Megumi, who was forced to make opium, which indirectly killed people and destroyed lives.
Both Jin and Megumi take their titles very seriously. Megumi is a doctor, she will always do everything possible to help someone in need. Similarly, Jin is firm in his belief that swordsmanship should never be used to oppress people, and will fight against such acts.
Megumi also has a soft spot for samurai, since she had a romantic interest in Kenshin, whom Jin shares a lot in common with. As Megumi hopes to one day return to her family in Aizu, she and Jin would make an excellent traveling party: Doctor and ronin.
8 Botan (Yu Yu Hakusho) & Yamcha (Dragon Ball Z)
It’s been made apparent since his first appearance in the Dragon Ball series that Yamcha likes strong women with blue hair. He wants nothing more than to love and be loved, even stating his dream to get married, things that are disrupted by his fear of women. That’s where Botan comes in. Unlike Bulma, as great as she is, Botan is much more bubbly and positive.
Botan doesn’t get worked up easily and she’s just an overall happy person. This would match perfectly with the jovial Yamcha, as Botan is the type of woman he could warm up to because she gets along with everyone.
7 Tomoko Kuroki (WataMote: No Matter How I Look At It, Its You Guys Fault I'm Not Popular!) & Shigeo Kageyama A.K.A. Mob (Mob Psycho 100)
Even though she doesn’t have superpowers, Tomoko and Mob share a similar goal: To become popular. Since Mob was taught by Reigen not to abuse his power, Mob seeks to become popular the way a normal person would. Mob sets his sights on improving his confidence by improving his body, while Tomoko takes a different approach and focuses on talking/social interaction.
Tomoko is also terrible at speaking to boys and Mob’s indifferent demeanor would probably make him easier for her to talk to without feeling embarrassed. Their social ineptitude, determination to become better, and the ways they approach this improvement complement each other, giving Tomoko and Shigeo great support for their goals.
6 Homura Akemi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica) & Koyuki Himekawa A.K.A. Snow White (Magical Girl Raising Project)
Magical girls are supposed to protect everyone, but Homura has been shown to care for Madoka more than humanity, which is a big problem because Madoka is an altruist. Rather than continue to fight against Madoka’s nature, Homura could find happiness with Snow White.
Snow White is initially as selfless and innocent as Madoka, but after seeing so many of her friends killed by other magical girls, Snow White resolves to hunt down rogue magical girls and bring them to justice. Together they would easily be able to stop the deaths between magical girls and create a peaceful world. Homura would be loyal and dedicated, giving Snow White a companion strong enough to survive, one that would stay by her side and shares the same dream.
5 Aru Akise (Future Diary) & Kenji Miyazawa (Bungou Stray Dogs)
Kenji would be the yin to Aru’s yang. Aru is from a different world but with his detective prowess, he might as well be an Ability User and would probably do very well working with the Armed Detective Agency, especially alongside Kenji. Aru is intellectual and logical while Kenji is optimistic and strong. It’s the type of relationship where, while on a case, Aru would track the culprit and Kenji would keep him safe.
Both are trusting and don’t like to resort to violence, which would allow Aru to try talking to an enemy. If that doesn’t work, Kenji would beat them senseless. Given Aru’s origin and experience in Future Diary, he deserves someone like Kenji to be a light in his bleak world.
4 Akame (Akame Ga Kill!) & Tanjiro Kamado (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba)
Tanjiro and Akame have a strange amount in common, mainly their shared trauma and absolute dedication to their sisters. Akame and Tanjiro are both talented swordsmen, with Tanjiro being able to master difficult abilities and Akame able to wield powerful relics. Both are objective focused and have people to worry about, leaving them without a true love interest.
If they were together though, it would be different. That shared focus would enable Akame and Tanjiro to achieve their goals. Tanjiro would not only be Akame’s equal, but her voice of reason as she is typically merciless and ruthless, killing without hesitation.
3 Yuu Kusakabe (Wolf Girl & Black Prince) & Minori Kushieda (Toradora!)
The love rival always ends up with the short end of the stick. Yuu and Minori are both genuine, kind, loving people who put others’ feelings before their own, going as far as to let the person they like to walk away because they want them to be happy. Yuu is quiet and shy, with low self-esteem from years of bullying, but he’s willing to push himself forward with the right amount of support, which makes Minori his perfect match.
Minori is cheerful and full of energy, the type of girl who would keep pulling Yuu forward with her. On the other hand, Yuu would be the shoulder Minori needs when she feels the pressure of supporting her family and friends.
2 Shion Pavlichenko (Darker than Black) & Kashiwagi Rein A.K.A. Information Broker Rain (Darwin’s Game)
Shion and Rain are very intelligent, lacking in emotion, and great snipers. Shion is a Contractor with an ability enabling him to clone anything, but with a single flaw. Rain’s ability basically allows her to see the future by calculating object locations and movement.
Cool, calm, and collected, the two of them would be a force to be reckoned with in Darwin’s Game and against the Syndicate. They both approach things from an analytical standpoint, meaning they should be a perfectly compatible couple that, due to a lack of emotional understanding, would take forever to realize they're in love.
1 Hikaru Hitachiin & Kaoru Hitachiin (Ouran High School Host Club) & Rem & Ram (Re:Zero)
Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin are twin brothers while Rem and Ram are twin sisters. It couldn’t be more perfect. Like Rem and Ram, Hikaru and Kaoru have their own personalities and one is more emotionally dependent on the other. Hikaru and Rem are the more emotional of the sets. While Kaoru withdraws from trying to win over Haruhi, Hikaru loses out to Tamaki; similarly, while Subaru does love Rem, he will always hold Emilia first.
Through these experiences, Hikaru and Rem would understand each other. Meanwhile, the maturer Kaoru and Ram, who always put their twin before themselves, should also make for a great match, especially at keeping Hikaru and Rem in line.
