Regardless of whether someone likes their name or not, names are important conventions that communicate a sense of both uniqueness and belonging. Names are linked to cultures, families, regions, and history, indicating their importance in designating someone as part of a group. At the same time, the combination and meaning behind one's personal name is often something unique to them.

Names have power, and they're indications of the hopes and expectations that parents have for their children's futures, so people should value and cherish their names. But sometimes, people end up with names that are a bit cumbersome or carry more weight than they'd like. It's no different in the world of anime, and, regardless of how they feel about their names, there are plenty of anime characters with impressively long monikers.

Based on the Japanese light novel series by Gakuto Mikumo, Asura Cryin' is a supernatural mecha anime that initially aired in 2009. Blending the supernatural with mecha makes for a confusing plot that can be difficult to follow, but the anime adaptation does a decent job with character development. Originally a human princess known as Rola, Shinobu was turned into a vampire hundreds of years before the events of Bakemonogatari. Her vampire name is Kiss-shot Acerola-Orion Heart-under-blade. Interestingly, her human name is made up of kanji that matches the "Heart-under-blade" bit of her vampire name: 忍 ("Shinobu") contains the kanji for "heart" (心) under the kanji for "blade" (刃).

4 Radical Edward's Name Is Radically Lengthy (Cowboy Bebop)

Although Ed admits she made up her own name in Cowboy Bebop, it still technically counts. Ed introduces herself as Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky IV, mostly because she doesn't know her actual name. tamaki sipping tea in ouran high school host club

Since Ouran High School Host Club's Tamaki is half French and half Japanese, he has a uniquely long name that combines both his French and Japanese heritage. Tamaki's full name is René Tamaki Richard Grantaine Suoh, and it's completely understandable why he'd rather go by "Tamaki" while in Japan. Seemingly shallow at first glance, Tamaki actually turns out to be a thoughtful and considerate character whose boisterous naivete is both charming and occasionally annoying.

1 Bakugo's Hero Name Is Unsurprisingly Grandiose (My Hero Academia)

My Hero Academia: Bakugo's Super Moves, Ranked

As a character who thinks he is (and strives to be) better than everyone else, Katsuki Bakugo chose an obnoxiously long pro-hero name in My Hero Academia. Bakugo's full hero name in Japanese is Daibakusasshin Dainamaito, which translates to Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight. Although it's rather egotistical, it's still very fitting for Bakugo as a character, since it effectively communicates the image that Bakugo has of himself and wants to impress on others.
