In the world of Japanese animation, characters can look like absolutely anything. Some of them have animal ears, such as InuYasha the swordsman or Raphtalia the tanuki girl, while others are known to wear stylish masks, wear fancy jewelry, or dress in a certain color, such as all black. The creative possibilities of cosmetics are endless.

Plenty of anime characters care a great deal about looking their best, and that includes the use of cosmetic products such as makeup and lipstick. These characters aren't often seen actually applying lipstick as part of their daily routine, but they might mention it once or twice, and their appearance makes it clear that lipstick is a part of their preferred look.

10 Kirari Momobami Has Light Blue Lipstick (Kakegurui)

ririka and kirari

Many of the girls who attend Hyakkou put a lot of effort into their appearance, from fancy fingernails to dyed hair and certainly lipstick. In fact, the troublemaker heroine Yumeko Jabami once used her lipstick during a gamble with Midari Ikishima, but she's not the only girl who dolls herself up.

Kirari Momobami, the brilliant and cunning student council president, always looks her best with two braided hair loops and bright blue lipstick. She is never really seen applying it in front of a mirror, but clearly, light blue is her preferred look. Her twin sister Ririka, meanwhile, prefers masks over colorful makeup.

9 Diavolo Has Dark Pink Lipstick On (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

JoJo Golden Wind Diavolo Time Erase

In anime and most works of fiction, it's usually women and teen girls who wear lipstick, often in shades of red or pink, but a few stylish men might wear it too, making for a unique look. In fact, several male JoJo's Bizarre Adventure characters evidently wear it, and that includes the Golden Wind villain himself, Diavolo.

Diavolo has a colorful and flamboyant appearance from head to toe, including his fishnet shirt, long pinkish hair, bright green eyes, and colorful accessories. To round out this look, he wears dark pink lipstick that might vaguely remind fans of DIO's own green lipstick. It's the villain look, evidently.

8 Aina Yoshiwara Really Cakes It On (Grand Blue)

Aina Yoshiwara

The light-hearted seinen anime Grand Blue features a somewhat insecure college girl named Aina Yoshiwara, and she relies on heavy makeup and fancy wigs to make herself look good and stand out in the crowd. She looks fine with her natural appearance and hair, but she feels insecure that way.

So, Aina earned the nickname "Cakey" by applying garishly heavy makeup to hide her appearance and look more like a gyaru, complete with a blonde wig. This includes ultra-heavy eye shadow and of course, some bright red lipstick to complete the look. Later in the manga, though, Aina abandoned this look.

7 Lust Has Dark Red Lipstick (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

Lust and Havoc on a date in Fullmetal Alchemist

It's possible that the homunculus Lust doesn't even need to apply actual lipstick to her face, and her appearance of having lipstick is a natural part of her body. After all, her lipstick is fully restored even if she gets burned to the bone and regenerates her flesh.

Whether Lust's lipstick is normal or supernatural, it does look good on her, and it's all part of her "deadly seductress" role in Father's homunculus squad. Everything about Lust's appearance is designed to make people, mostly men, lower their guard around her out of sheer lust. It didn't fully work as intended on Jean Havoc, though.

6 Minerva Orland Once Wore Fairly Heavy Makeup (Fairy Tail)

Minerva Orland from Fairy Tail

The Sabertooth wizard Minerva Orland ranks among Fairy Tail's most powerful female wizards, and she also wears heavier makeup than most of the other girls. While Mirajane and Lucy prefer fancy outfits to look good, Minerva wears an Asian-inspired getup, complete with colorful cosmetics.

During her time in the Sabertooth guild, Minerva wore bright blue eye shadow and dark red lipstick, and interestingly, this makeup of hers didn't wash off during the underwater, all-female battle in the Grand Magic Games tournament. Later, as a redeemed villain, Minerva gave up her eye shadow and lipstick entirely.

5 Sakon & Ukon Have Green Lipstick On (Naruto)

Sakon and his twin Ukon are a part of the Sound Four squad, and according to Sakon, their combined strength also makes them the team's strongest member. Sakon has a bizarre kekkei genkai that allows him and Ukon to meld their body parts onto other people, such as having one of their heads sticking out of Kiba Inuzuka's shoulder.

Sakon has a fairly straightforward look, with shaggy light gray hair, unexpressive eyes, and dark green lipstick, and the same is true for Ukon. When they morph into stage 2, though, their lips are black, and their faces are like demons.

4 Asami Sato Nearly Always Wears Makeup (The Legend Of Korra)

Asami Sato in The Legend of Korra

The Future Industries CEO has more to take pride in than her good looks, though no one can blame her for taking the time to look her best every day. Asami is a naturally attractive person who uses just enough eye shadow and dark red lipstick to look gorgeous, which boosts her charisma even more.

Korra quickly learned that Asami is not just Daddy's spoiled daughter. She is a smart, brave, and highly capable person who fights in Team Avatar while also leading an entire company in Republic City, making her the series' best non-bender. Asami is a real go-getter and looks classy the entire time.

3 Misa Amane Likes To Look Good (Death Note)

Light Yagami's longtime collaborator, Misa Amane, is utterly devoted to Kira's cause and likes to look her best at the same time. Misa has always been fond of bright red lipstick, naturally colored makeup, and trendy fashion, including dark Goth-inspired outfits.

Later on, Misa swapped her Goth getups for more mainstream young women's clothes, giving her a more grounded appearance. Still, she liked to wear flesh-colored makeup and her usual red lipstick throughout the story, and it looked good on her, too.

2 Kurenai Kogetsu Always Dresses Well, Including Makeup (Edens Zero)

Kurenai Kogetsu in Edens Zero

Just like Lust, the Edens Zero antagonist Kurenai Kogetsu has a "beautiful but deadly" air about her, being a well-dressed lady who always looks her best, no matter what. She wears a provocative red kimono, does up her hair in a fancy hairdo, and wears colorful eye shadow and lipstick as well.

Kurenai is also one of anime's worst mothers. Her daughter, Homura, is far more loyal to the Edens Zero crew than to her abusive and selfish mother, Kurenai, and no one can blame her for that. Aside from her classy appearance, Kurenai is almost like Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars, an arrogant and cruel sci-fi crime lord who exploits or even kills their underlings.

1 Daki Is A Beautiful But Vicious Courtesan (Demon Slayer)

One of the antagonists of Demon Slayer season 2, Daki

Daki is in the same boat as characters like Lust and Kurenai Kogetsu. She is a gorgeous but terrifying villainess who uses her good looks to fool everyone until she is ready to strike in the Entertainment District, where she has found work. She also ranks among Muzan's most powerful minions of all as the Upper Moon Six.

In her human disguise, Daki is the Entertainment District's beauty queen, fully decked out in a gorgeous kimono, fancy hair accessories and, of course, classy makeup, which includes bright red lipstick. Her brother Gyutaro, by contrast, is terribly insecure about his appearance.
