The MCU has brought many of Marvel Comics' best characters to life on the big screen, from the invincible Iron Man to the noble Captain America and the incredible Captain Marvel, among others. In many ways, these heroes feel reminiscent of Japanese anime characters in terms of design and storytelling alike. That includes the Asgardian hero, Thor.

Thor is, in anime terms, a reverse-isekai hero who journeyed from the exotic world of Asgard to Earth to become a mighty Avenger. He would actually feel at home in many action anime series, and he would meet more than a few characters who would remind him of himself. These anime characters may also be reverse-isekai warriors, for example, or have a personality similar to Thor's.

10 Thors Shares More Than A Name With Thor (Vinland Saga)

thors vinland saga

Thors is a Viking, and he admires Norse gods such as Odin, Thors, and Freya, but there's more to it than that. Thors was once a Jomsviking, an elite warrior, but he grew weary of constant bloodshed and faked his death to escape and start a new life on the coast of Iceland with his new bride.

Similarly, Thor the Asgardian abandoned his bloodthirsty ways early in his 2011 movie and learned to fight to defend others, not defend his own honor. Both characters understand that battle must be fought with a noble and selfless purpose, no matter what.

9 Might Guy Is Cheerful & Incredibly Strong (Naruto)

Might Guy From Naruto

Might Guy may not wield a hammer or command lightning in battle, but aside from that, he and Thor would get along wonderfully if they met, especially since they have reasonably similar personalities. They are both powerful but responsible and kind warriors who use their strength to defend others, and not for their own glory.

Like Thor, Might Guy defines himself by his friendships with others and his commitment to justice, and both warriors would gladly lay down their lives for the sake of their friends or homeland. Thor flew into a terrifying rage when Thanos killed Loki, and Might Guy would totally understand. He'd feel the same way.

8 Chad Learned To Use His Strength For Good (Bleach)

Yasutora Sado in the Soul Society in Bleach.

Thor isn't just a powerful Asgardian prince. He had to learn vital lessons about responsibility and restraint, especially in the wake of his scuffle with the Frost Giants, and Yasutora "Chad" Sado had a roughly similar experience, minus the Norse mythology.

Both Chad and Thor had to learn that strength is a gift to use responsibility, not a toy, and these characters almost lost themselves to rage and bloodlust in their youth. Chad went from bully to noble pacifist when he met Ichigo, and now he uses his strength only to defend the weak, never to harm another.

7 Laxus Dreyar Has Lightning, Strength, & Daddy Issues Too (Fairy Tail)

Laxus Dreyar_Fairy Tail

In many ways, the lightning dragon slayer Laxus Dreyar is the Thor of Fairy Tail, and his lightning-based magic is just the start. Like Thor, Laxus is a naturally strong and tough guy who had to learn some hard lessons about responsibility, and like Thor, he got himself banished because he abused his strength like a bully.

Laxus is at odds with his cruel father, Ivan, and for a time, he was also at odds with his kind grandfather, Makarov Dreyar. Fortunately, Laxus and Makarov mended ties, just the way Thor reconciled with Odin before Odin's demise in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok.

6 All Might Is Strong & Proud (My Hero Academia)

All Might's I'm Here pose

The invincible All Might doesn't use weapons or lightning in battle - he just needs his bare fists and a Smash attack to save the day. Still, he and the mighty Thor would see eye to eye if they ever met, and they'd have more in common than either would suspect.

Both heroes are incredibly strong, but they are also humble about their strength, and they understand what it's like to lose everything but keep fighting regardless. They also have cheerful and brave personas in battle that can help encourage any ally to keep fighting beyond their limits. Thor has gone Plus Ultra more than once, after all.

5 Escanor Is An Avengers-Level Warrior (The Seven Deadly Sins)

escanor deadly sins

Escanor is a holy knight and a member of the deadly sins squad, under the direct command of Meliodas himself. While Meliodas is the sin of wrath, Escanor is the boastful lion sin of pride, and he has a formidable battle-ax named Rhitta that only he can carry. Just wielding it is a point of pride for Escanor.

Thor and Escanor are both brute-strength warriors who carry mighty weapons of war into battle, and they are both proud and confident fighters who temper their pride with a dash of humility to help keep themselves grounded. Escanor is vain at times, but he is also a cooperative teammate and nurses a serious crush on Merlin, who is his own Jane Foster.

4 Gabiru Learned Humility In Battle (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime)

gabiru army in battle

Gabiru is a lizard-man who evolved into a dragonewt, and at first, he was a cocky and reckless battlefield commander of his native lizard-man tribe. His old and wise father tried to restrain Gabiru, but it was no good, and Gabiru took on the orc army before he was ready. If it weren't for Rimuru, he would have perished.

Gabiru was banished from his homeland for his reckless actions, just like how Odin banished Thor for antagonizing the Frost Giants. Then, Gabiru tempered his pride with newfound humility, and became a loyal subject of his new boss, Rimuru Tempest. Gabiru is still proud, but not quite as foolish as before.

3 Darkness Is A Silly But Lovable Thor (Konosuba)

darkness crusader konosuba

Nearly every character in the comedy isekai series Konosuba is a total goofball or a satirical take on classic isekai archetypes, from the hapless goddess Aqua to the explosion-loving with Megumin. Then there's the armored crusader Darkness, who at least tries to act like an honorable adventurer.

Darkness, like Thor, is a noble and brave fighter who left home to fight new battles elsewhere, and both characters gladly joined new parties as loyal companions. Thor has the Avengers, while Darkness has her dysfunctional but exciting party with Kazuma.

2 Reiner Braun Is A Conflicted Warrior (Attack On Titan)

Reiner holding up his hand to say wait in Attack on Titan

Reiner Braun has more of a villainous streak than Thor does, but aside from that, they have a number of rough parallels. Both characters fight hard for what they believe is right, but they're not always sure just what that is. Thor needed time to figure out who his true enemies were and what his purpose for battle is, and Reiner feels the same way.

Reiner and Thor have both made mistakes and acted villainously, but deep down, they want to protect those dear to them and bring peace to the world, usually through high-intensity combat. But sometimes, it takes more than that to change the world.

1 Edward Elric Won't Abuse His Gifts Again (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

edward looking behind him fullmetal alchemist

At a glance, the petite Edward Elric seems nothing like the mighty Thor, but their character arcs are actually fairly similar. Just like Thor and many other anime protagonists, Edward made some serious mistakes in his youth, when he was arrogant and thought he could do no wrong. He and his brother tried to revive their dead mother Trisha and paid for it.

Now, Ed is humbler and has a new view on life and himself, and he now uses his gifts to help others, rather than himself. And like Thor, Ed has lost his home and is sometimes at odds with his old, wise father, Van Hohenheim. Father and son might reconcile later, though.
