Most anime battles are settled by who can dole out the most physical punishment. Whether a battle of weapons or fists, physical strength and endurance almost always define the difference between winners and losers, barring a handful of underdog scenarios.

However, there are some characters who require a much more nuanced approach to defeat. Due to their special abilities or innate properties, they are completely immune to solid attacks. These superhuman individuals and what they are capable of allow fans to appreciate that not all fights are as straightforward as ideal.

10 The Evangelist Is An Entity Beyond The Physical Dimension (Fire Force)

The main antagonist Evangelist from Fire Force

The Evangelist was the main antagonist of Fire Force and an entity of unimaginable power. In addition to being responsible for almost worldwide devastation, she is capable of telepathically communicating to her White-Clad followers.

What makes the Evangelist so difficult to defeat is that she exists in another dimension entirely. Therefore, she is effectively immune to physical damage both due to her supernatural powers and unique location. It makes Company Eight's efforts to protect their city almost pointless since they will continue to fight a defensive war.

9 Suigetsu Was Made Of Water (Naruto)

Suigetsu Naruto

Suigetsu was one of Sasuke's closest companions and the inheritor of Naruto's Executioner Blade. Although far from the series' strongest shinobi, Orochimaru's experiments yielded a particularly fascinating result. Suigetsu's body was made entirely of water.

Therefore, he could be kicked, sliced, and even slammed apart without taking consequential damage. All the shinobi would need to do is pull himself back together and continue the fight. The best way to counter Suigetsu's unique physiology is by using nature releases like fire or electricity. Otherwise, one would be hard-pressed to defeat him.

8 Giorno Was Immune To Everything (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

Giorno Giovanna in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind.

At first, Giorno's "Gold Wind" Stand was of limited use in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. It could replace severed or destroyed body parts. Though, it was by no means full protection against physical attacks.

However, after evolving his Stand into a requiem through the arrow, it allowed him to reset anything to the property of zero. In other words, his body could revert any damage or undesirable outcome so that he was completely impervious to harm. This did more than protect Giorno from physical attacks - it rendered him the strongest character of the entire series.

7 Caesar Clown Had A Gas-Based Logia Fruit (One Piece)

Caesar Clown was one of One Piece's most underestimated villains. Though a far cry from the most powerful opponent Luffy faced, he could completely deplete his surrounding radius of oxygen. This effectively asphyxiated enemies and made him impossible to defeat in close quarters.

As a logia user, Clown's body was made of gas. As a result, all physical attacks passed through it without damage. Although he was still weak to armament haki, that cannot be considered a standard punch since it is imbued with the user's willpower and spirit.

6 Ymir Was A Godlike Figure That Lived In The Paths (Attack On Titan)

Eren runs to stop Ymir from rendering the Eldians unable to reproduce

As the original progenitor of titans, Ymir's towering size and strength made her nearly invulnerable in Attack On Titan. After passing away, she became even more divine when creating titans in the paths.

Although it was impossible to harm Ymir even for an Eldian, she was more than capable of influencing the outside world. For example, she created wall titans for the Rumbling, taking full advantage of the Paths' timeless nature in order to fulfill the whims of the Fritz family's most recent heir.

5 Ryuk Was A Shinigami Beyond Mortal Weapons (Death Note)

Ryuk from Death Note

As a shinigami, Ryuk was immune to anything that the humans of the Death Note universe could throw at him. Luckily, he wasn't interested in expediting their demise. Instead, he followed Light's adventures to "purge the world of corruption" as a curious spectator.

It is unlikely that the Death Note itself could harm Ryuk, which means that the only known way of killing him is by forcing him to care about a human so much that he'd want to protect them with his own life. Given Ryuk's personality, this would be highly out of character.

4 Anyone Who Touched Grayroad Aged Rapidly (Seven Deadly Sins)

grayroad's curse seven deadly sins

As the commandment of passivism, anyone who attacked Grayroad had a nasty surprise in store for them. Should they lay a hand on her, they would be reduced to withered husks in a matter of moments. Worse yet, Grayroad wouldn't be noticeably injured.

The only real way to harm the demon is if the aggressor has some form of immortality. Of the Seven Deadly Sins cast, Meliodas, Ban, and Merlin would be best able to overcome her unique defenses given their supernatural properties and experience in dealing with demons.

3 Notorious B.I.G Could Endure Any Attack (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

Notorious Chase is an automatic stand

Notorious B.I.G was a Stand so resilient that it managed to outlast its own user's death. This inherently made it one of the strongest threats in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, especially given its interaction with Team Bucciarati.

Despite being split apart, shot at, and even drowned, nothing was capable of defeating B.I.G for good. The only way to avoid it was to cast it into the ocean, using its movement-based tracking to ensure it remained permanently disoriented.

2 Vaatu Was A Malevolent Spiritual Presence (Legend Of Korra)

Dark Spirit Vaatu

As one of the most wicked and primordial forces in the Avatar universe, Vaatu was easily Korra's greatest opponent. Traditional bending was hardly useful against him, especially after taking Unalaq as a host.

When combined, the two nearly destroyed Raava and all of Republic City. Korra needed to harness her own spiritual power in order to rival Vaatu's host and defeat him. Should Republic City have been forced to marshal its armies and defend themselves, they would have been badly massacred along with the rest of their people.

1 Charon Could Enhance & Reflect Physical Attacks (Fire Force)

charon cultist fire force

Charon's Ignition Ability made him a frightening Fire Force antagonist. He could absorb and reflect physical attacks as formidable blasts of fire, making it ill-advised to confront him. Should one seek another way to defeat Charon, he has a personal entourage of cultists to punch him and spark his Ignition Ability.

The only potential way to defeat Charon is by ignoring and overpowering his attacks with one's own. However, considering that Charon could take in so much damage that it defaced the moon when he reflected it, his capacity for punishment is dangerously high.
