Characters in the world of anime are hugely diverse, with some being classic shonen heroes and others being chilling villains. Many of them have magical powers or robots on hand, but many others are perfectly ordinary people who could easily integrate into real life, and they could even be someone's roommate.

Some anime characters would make lousy roommates, since they are bad with money, incredibly messy, unreliable or loud, but others would make perfectly fine roommates. In fact, some of these characters would be such stellar roommates, college students and apartment tenants would fight over them, eager to get these characters on their lease with them. Who's going to be a great person to live with?

10 Tohru Honda Is Sweet & Responsible (Fruits Basket)

Fruits Basket's protagonist Tohru Honda is easy to get along with, since she is an easygoing, polite girl with a heart of gold and surprising amounts of mental fortitude. She always sees the best in others, and will help anyone who needs her, no matter who they are. She is also responsible and self-sufficient, mainly due to being an orphan.

Tohru easily integrated into the Sohma family, and she made a great impression on most of the Sohmas, and even the doubters soon grew to like her. Tohru would get along with any roommate in a college dorm, and give them any emotional support they need.

9 Naoya Nifuji Is Cheerful & Smart (Wotakoi: Love Is Hard For Otaku)

naoya nifuji wotakoi

In many ways, Naoya Nifuji is the Tohru Honda of Wotakoi: Love is Hard For Otaku, though his personal insight skills aren't quite as advanced. He is certainly more empathetic and friendly than his kuudere brother Hirotaka, though, and he makes a great effort to keep everyone happy.

Naoya would be a pleasant roommate for just about anyone, and he doesn't have any serious baggage or excessively weird habits or problematic behavior to get in the way. He's a casual (and terrible) gamer and a college student, a perfectly ordinary package for any lease.

8 Ryoko Sakaki Is A Great Chef & Good Friend (Food Wars!)

Many of the student chefs at the Totsuki Culinary Academy in Food Wars! are eccentric and sometimes make a mess, and they might clutter a dorm with all their cooking gear and ingredients. Alice Nakiri, for example, would be a tiresome roommate, and Isshiki has awkward habits, but Ryoko would make a great roommate.

Ryoko is a great cook, but she also has a mild and gentle personality and isn't vain enough to clutter her room with cooking stuff and get in her roommate's way with her culinary experiments. She can keep her work life and home life separate.

7 Futaro Uesugi Is Responsible & Diligent (The Quintessential Quintuplets)

Futgaro Uesugi is the tutor of the five Nakano quintuplets, and he is the object of their affection, too. It's easy to see why: Futaro may have a bit of a temper, but otherwise he's a kind, responsible, diligent and earnest fellow who is determined to see others succeed. He's a hardworking optimist.

Futaro also comes from a poor household, and he knows the value of money. He'd be responsible with rent and bills in any apartment or dorm, and in a college dorm, he could even help his roommate study more effectively. That's a great deal.

6 Chad Is A Quiet & Mature Person (Bleach)

Yasutora Sado in the Soul Society in Bleach.

Yasutora "Chad" Sado sometimes frustrates other Bleach characters with how quiet and unexpressive he is, but that's hardly a bad thing. Chad is a loyal friend and a responsible person, and he knows better than to abuse his strength to mess with people. He's rather mature for his age, in fact.

Chad isn't the life of the party, but a good roommate doesn't have to be a party animal. Actually, it's better to have a modest and reserved roommate like Chad, who won't make a ruckus or get into trouble. He'll quietly hand over his share of rent every month, and otherwise mind his own business.

5 Tsukasa Is Mysterious But A Great Roommate (TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You)

The mysterious young lady known as Tsukasa has a possible connection to the moon goddess Kaguya, but it's no mystery that she is a fine roommate and even spouse, as Nasa Yuzaki found out to his pleasant surprise. He really enjoyed having Tsukasa around, even if she was a bit odd.

At worst, Tsukasa will sleepwalk, but that's about it for her downsides. She is patient, polite, kind and generous, and she is also a fine cook and is quite devoted to Nasa. She wouldn't marry a future roommate of hers, but she would get along with that person just fine.

4 Ochaco Uraraka Is Friendly & Good With Money (My Hero Academia)

my hero academia ochaco uraraka

Ochaco Uraraka, AKA Uravity, settled right into the U.A. dorms with her My Hero Academia classmates, and no doubt she would be comfortable having a trusted friend as a roommate. Ochaco is a generous and gracious person, making her easy to get along with. She has no strange habits or behavioral issues of note.

Better yet, while Ochaco is short on cash, she is a responsible and diligent person who will always pay the bills and rent before even considering spending any money on fun. Ochaco might only barely make rent, but she'll make it each time, without fail.

3 Ryuji Takasu Is Great Around The House (Toradora!)

Although he may have a scary face, Ryuji Takasu is actually a kind and responsible boy who wouldn't harm a fly. In the Toradora! anime, he lived with his single mother who was often away at work, so it fell to him to run a tight household. Cleaning, laundry and cooking are all second nature to him.

All this would make him a highly appealing roommate in any apartment or dorm, and Ryuji is easy to get along with. He's gentle, but he's also tough enough to stand up to rowdy people like Taiga Aisaka.

2 Kyoko Hori Is Responsible & Smart (Horimiya)

kyoko hori horimiya

Kyoko Hori is half of Horimiya's main couple, along with Izumi Miyamura, and this relationship brings out the best in her (and sometimes the worst). Kyoko is a motherly figure at home, being highly responsible with chores and looking after her much younger brother, Souta.

Kyoko won't do all of this for a roommate, since they aren't family, but Kyoko would still prove to be a dependable and smart roommate who won't make trouble of any kind. In fact, she's more likely to deal with obnoxious troublemakers than be one herself.

1 Sayu Yagami Was A Perfectly Ordinary College Student (Death Note)

sayu yagami happy

During the second major story arc of Death Note, Light Yagami's little sister Sayu was a happy and completely normal college student. She was probably a great student with lots of friends, and the story made it clear that Sayu is a cheerful and empathetic person who is easy to get along with. She doesn't need acting skills to make people like her.

Sayu would make a fine college dormmate for just about anyone who's like her, preferably a girl her age who shares her interests and hobbies. Sayu has a cop for a father, after all, and she would be a responsible and well-behaved dormmate to make her father proud. She's not the type to go wild or get into trouble.
