There are few mediums that can match the fantastical, sci-fi ambition of anime. It has brought people grand spectacle within a vast array of mediums that seem unmatched if not outright copied in Western media. This is arguably because the creative drive within Japan is something heavily nurtured, allowing for tons of original content to come from there.

However, as Shonens, Shoujos, and Isekais have shown people, this is not always the case. There's bound to be some reoccurring elements if not outright redundancy within the community as a whole, as certain characters hold more than a few key similarities. This list will be looking at a few of those instances, as it runs down 10 times anime characters essentially had the exact same powers between different series.

10 Eren Yaeger and Kaneki - Demon Themed Identity Crisis

While not symmetrical in actual form, Eren Yaeger and Ken Kaneki share the same plight. In worlds where humanity is at constant war with violent, man-eating, humanoid monsters, these two had the gift and curse of being able to turn into those monsters thrust upon them by circumstance.

Both creatures are capable of significant strength, as well as the added benefit of being able to pose alongside regular society, something that comes as a huge strategic advantage to Eren while acting more as a personal, social choice to Kaneki.

9 Saiki Kusuo and Mob - Psychic Prodigies

Maintaining a normal high school life can be pretty hard when one is gifted with an incredible acumen for psychic abilities. This is the case for the pink, haired stoic Saiki Kusuo and the shy and timid Shigeo Kageyama, aka Mob. Both use godlike psychic abilities to interact with their world, whether that means helping their family and friends or even just doing the mundane.

Mob in particular, consistently uses his powers to fight off spiritual threats, but Saiki's wide range of overpowered psychic abilities suggests that he could also just as easily do the same.

8 Chrollo Lucifer and All for One - Power Stealing

The ability to steal powers from others is a major theme across anime. Taking advantage of others' abilities by taking them for your own is just classic anime villain 101. Whether that means copying abilities a la Naruto's Sharingan or outright stealing them like One Piece's Blackbeard, the ability to essentially have every ability is quite a useful one.

Such an advantage is clearly exemplified between the major villains of Hunter x Hunter and My Hero Academia. Chrollo Lucifer is the leader of the Phantom Troupe whose little black book keeps carries all the stolen abilities of robbed Nen users, whereas All for One is Shigaraki's predecessor and a man capable of taking and dispersing Quirks at will.

7 Natsu Dragneel and Shinra Kusakabe - Fighting Fire with More Fire

If there was ever a super power to define the coolest character in any piece of fiction, that power would ironically be pyromancy and the general tendency to summon and command flame. Such a trait is shared between the Shone protagonists of Fairy Tail and Fire Force.

Fairy Tale's Natsu is a Dragon Slayer whose mage training involved a mastery over fire magic. Shinra on the other hand is a Fire Soldier bearing the abilities of a pyrokinetic, often using flame powers in conjunction with melee attacks.

6 Toshiro Hitsuguya and Esdeath - Ice Abilities

At the other end of the thermometer, tons of anime include ice abilities. This typically means a tendency to summon freezing temperatures, manifesting shapes via freezing, or just the exclusive telekinetic use of ice.

Two of anime's biggest Elsa ripoffs include Bleach's own Toshiro Hitsuguya, a Soul Reaper whose Zanpakuto whose spiritual power manifests ice, and Akame ga Kill's Esdeath, a general who gained the ability to manipulate ice by drinking the blood of a beast. Both have the added benefit within their respective worlds of being able to use their ice abilities without the presence of water.

5 Sanji and Might Guy - Walking on Air

During Might Guy's epic clash with Madara, he finally opens the Eight Inner Gates and reveals immense levels of strength and skill that not only grant him superhuman strength but also enough power to create great gushes of air pressure with every move he makes, an ability that even allows him to walk on air.

While Guy was sacrificing his body to achieve this special power, Sanji from One Piece kind of just stumbles upon it when he was running from his mentors on Momoiro when he had nowhere else to run but the air above him.

4 Koyomi Araragi and Undead Ban - Immortal Best Boys

Tragic circumstance within magical worlds in anime sometimes has the added potential of gifting the kindest people with great immortality, whether they want it or not. This is the case for the Monogatari Series' Koyomi Araragi, whose relationship with the vampire Shinobu allows him to be part vampire, whereas Ban from The Seven Deadly Sins would gain his immortal soul from much more tragic events surrounding the destruction of the Fountain of Youth.

Both cases result in their immortal bodies, an ability that manifests in horrific scenes of action and violence that only serves to show these two to shrug off their wounds.

3 Zapp Renfro and Kiyomasa Senji - Blood Blades

Bane to anyone who tries to start a knife fight, Blood Blockade Battlefront's Zapp and Deadman Wonderland's Crow both show that the more cuts they get, the more opportunities they have to cut back.

In Blood Blockade Battlefront, Zapp is a master of the Big Dipper Blood Battle Style, an ability that not only allows him to manipulate his blood as razor-sharp strings but also collect them to form samurai bloods; whereas in Deadman Wonderland, Crow's Branch of Sin allows his blood to form curved blades stemming from his arms.

2 Pikachu and Zatch Bell - Electrical Demons

While people fight over whether ice or fire abilities are best, those with electrical-based techniques get to sit at the side knowing what's really up. Electrical based attacks are some of anime's most destructive, flashy, and versatile; and in this entry, they only get better with small, cute hosts.

Pikachu is the small, electrical mouse from Pokémon whose most famous move is "Thunderbolt" among its variety of other shocking attacks. In the anime version of The Hunger Games, Zatch Bell is a mamodo whose spellbook also allows him to summon a variety of thunder and lightning-based attacks. As a bonus, both have a slight tendency to shock their masters, because why not?

1 Jojo's Bizarre Adventures and The Persona Series - Stands vs. Personas

The similarity between the power sets of these two worlds was so close, it was just too hard to pick one character from either series. While Persona is more famous and critically acclaimed for its video game series, that doesn't stop the fact that it does have quite a line of anime, as well as the fact that Personas have a suspicious similarity to Stands from Jojo's Bizarre Adventures.

Both abilities allow their users to summon manifestations of their user's inner self that also carry grand, supernatural powers. Also, each requires their respective users to command them with the same caveat that any damage they take carries over to their user. There's certainly a formula here that someone's using.
