There are so many different types of supernatural abilities in anime, especially within the Shonen genre. They're usually hidden within power systems like Nen, Devil Fruits, Chakra, Jutsu, Bankai, Quirks, and more, but at their core, it's just superpowers. And control over the elements seems to be a reoccurring theme that people are always fans of.

Among the four main elements of Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire, Earth seems to be the least commonly used or is only shown off by a minor character/someone weak. So in order to celebrate what should be the most overpowered of the four, let's talk about some of the most powerful and enjoyable anime characters with complete control over the ground they walk on.

10 Naruto: Gaara

Naruto And Bortuo, Gaara Fighting Against One Of The Otsutsuki Clan

Gaara is the first character that comes to mind for most, and for good reason. Gaara is quite an interesting character considering he started as an unhinged villain and ended up as one of the most mature leaders in Shinobi history and a straight-up hero. Gaara is a Sand Village Shinobi, and the current Kazekage. He's also a vessel for the One-Tailed Beast, the Shukaku, which gave him absurd amounts of power in comparison to other ninjas, especially in the use of sand. Gaara basically has complete control over any sand around him, and when he was younger the sand actually ran on auto-pilot, using itself to protect Gaara from any and all dangers around him. It's a shame he restricts himself to sand most of the time, but Gaara is still one of the most powerful Earthen power users out there.

9 The Seven Deadly Sins: Diane

diane seven deadly sins

So Diane from The Seven Deadly Sins has a bit of an unfair advantage compared to the other people on this list, she's gigantic. No, literally, she's from the Giant Clan and is massive. Diane is part of the elite Deadly Sins group, representing the sin of Envy, and who wouldn't be envious of her size, strength, speed, powers, and prestige? Just to name a few of her many abilities, Diane is able to turn her body in a metal harder than diamond, manipulate the earth around her with ease, and she swings around a gigantic hammer called Gideon with ease even though it weighs over a ton. Though, as it turns out, she isn't exactly the most beloved of the sins when it comes to the fanbase.

8 My Next Life As A Villainess: Katarina Claes

My Next Life As A Villainess, Katarina Tilling The Farmland

Now for a bit of a mix-up. Yes, Katarina Claes from My Next Life As A Villainess: All Routes Lead To Doom can manipulate earth, but its so minor they barely ever bring it up in the show. Her specialty is a move known as "Earth Bump" in which she uses all her strength to make a bit of earth raise itself, tripping anyone who stumbles into it. And that's about it, that's the most she can do. In comparison, her brother Keith and his golems are much more powerful but Katarina is a more well-written Earth user, especially since she tries to become closer to her element through farming and playing in the dirt. Plus, she's just a fantastic character, with hilarious quotes that fans reference constantly.

7 My Hero Academia: Pixie-Bob

My Hero Academia, One Of Pixie-Bobs Ground Golems

Ryuko Tsuchikawa, otherwise known by her Hero name as Pixie-Bob, is one of the four members of the Hero Team The Wild Wild Pussycats, and likely the most powerful. In comparison to her teammates, Pixie-Bob's Quirk is just so innately strong and can overpower a lot more than she is given credit for.

And, unlike other Quirks, her Earth-Flow ability isn't restricted in some odd way like only being able to manipulate dirt or anything, she can control anything defined as "Earth" and can even create animal-like creatures from the gravel that can walk around and attack those she commands them to. It's a shame fans only ever saw this Quirk once, because its easily as powerful as someone like Cementoss given the right environment.

6 One Piece: Pica

Pica Using The Stone-Stone Fruit To Fuse With Dressrosa Castle

Next, we're moving on to the biggest Shounen series out there, One Piece. In particular, it's time to take a look at one of the top executive villains from the Dressrosa Saga, See, Pica ate the Ishi Ishi No Mi or the Stone Stone fruit and can assimilate and manipulate any and all stone he comes into contact with. Unlike other Paramencia type fruits, Pica seems to have such fine motor control of his ability that he can turn himself into a gigantic Stone Golem the size of an entire Island. Just taking his size into account, it makes total sense why his bounty is so high.

5 Fullmetal Alchemist: Louis Armstrong

Louis Armstrong Breaking Stone With Alchemy, Fullmetal Alchemist

The Dogs of Amestris in Fullmetal Alchemist are a bit of a unique case, as they could potentially use multiple elements if they wanted to, but there's a real focus on having a "specialty" so most of them just define themselves by one type. Louis "Strong-Arm" Armstrong in particular is known for his artistic use of Earth Alchemy in order to attack people with raw power and statues of himself. That's right, Armstrong uses his spiked gauntlets to shape the Earth itself decimate the enemies in front of him. This unique Alchemy style is one of the many reasons Armstrong is by far the best boy.

4 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusaders: Iggy's Stand The Fool

JoJo Part 3, Iggy Fighting With His Stand, The Fool

The Fool Stand used by an adorable little Boston Terrier by the name of Iggy (named after Iggy Pop from The Stooges) was introduced before Stand's got too crazy, so its ability it relatively simple (no shooting fingernails or turning teeth into jellyfish here). Basically, The Fool is completely made of "sand" and can change its shape, density, color, or a variety of other aspects at Iggy's whim. Plus, usually, when Stands are damaged by another Stand, that damage is passed on to the user as well, but since you can't really "damage" sand, Iggy isn't hurt when his Stand is. Plus, Stands can't be seen by non-Stand users, so it's invisible to most people as well.

3 One Piece: Sir Crocodile

Sir Crocodile-One Piece

Hopping back to One Piece, we've got our third and final "Sand" user of the list, Sir Crocodile the ex-Warlord. Seems like the series can't really think of too many ways of using Earth, so they fall back on sand a lot. In any case, Crocodile can literally turn into sand thanks to his Logia-type Devil Fruit, which means he's immune to most damage in the same way Iggy's Stand is.

But, he can also generate sand, suck moisture from people until they become mummy-esque, and even fly. Crocodile was an early example of how strong Logia-users used to be in One Piece before Haki balanced the scales a bit. Nowadays he's sort of a pushover compared to all the New World badasses.

2 Fairy Tail: Jura Neekis

Jura Neekis

Jura is honestly one of the most likable characters in all of Fairy Tail, as he is simply empathetic and kind. Jura Neekis is one of the Ten Wizard Saints and he acts in a way that matches his title. He speaks to everyone in a professional manner, is constantly humbling himself, and shows respect to even his enemies. Jura is the most renowned Earth Magic-user in the series, having such immense control of this magic that he usually fights without really moving much. Jura uses hand signs for all his moves and boy are there a lot of them. He's able to block most attacks with ease and lets the enemy come to him before overpowering them with raw Magical Prowess.

1 Black Clover: Sol Marron

Black Clover Sol Marron Summoning Earth Golems

Finally, we have another character who uses magic, but instead of a manly Wizard Saint, Sol is a charming Magic Knight of the Blue Rose Squad. Her name literally means Soil in French and that's what she uses to fight most of the time, generating Earthen Golems or creating gigantic rock walls. Sol is less of a stationary Earth-user and more of a summoner, creating a variety of Golems that she rides around on and carries people inside of.
