10 Soul Eater NOT!

Released during the spring 2014 season, Soul Eater NOT! is a spin-off of Soul Eater. The anime takes place at Death Weapon Meister Academy, a year after the events of Soul Eater. With the same beloved characters enrolled, the group takes on the Especially Advantaged Talent Class.

The less talented are put in the Normally Overcome Target Class. The anime focuses on Tsugumi Harudori and her two classmates, Meme Tatane and Anya Hepburn. The trio spend their time learning to control their abilities. Soul Eater NOT! is 12-episodes.

9 The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan

Released during the spring 2015 season, The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan is a spin-off of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. The anime takes place in an alternate universe where Yuki Nagato has taken the lead role. With some help from her friends Yuki tries her best to get with Kyon. Haruhi Suzumiya is still in the spin-off but has taken a back-seat role. The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan is 16 episodes and has a one-episode OVA sequel.

8 Attack on Titan: Junior High

Released during the fall 2015 season, Attack on Titan: Junior High is a spin-off of Attack on Titan. The original version of Attack on Titan has spawned a lot of memes, but nothing like the chibi version. Attack on Titan: Junior High follows Eren Yeager but instead of being vengeful to titans from the attack on his mother, it's because they have stolen his cheeseburger.

Enrolled in Titan Junior High, Eren and his friends Mikasa and Armin live the high school life they’re not used to. Attack on Titan: Junior High is 12 episodes.

7 Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online

Released during the spring 2018 season, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online is a spin-off of Sword Art Online. The anime follows Karen Kohiruimaki, an avid player of Gun Gale Online. Playing under the name LLENN, Karen has been given the nickname the Pink Devil for her quick speed and pink outfit. Being one of the best players, the game has ever seen, LLENN runs into a challenge when she’s convinced to join a tournament by Pitohui, a player she meets online. Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online is 12-episodes.

6 Lord El-Melloi II Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note

Released during the summer 2019 season, Lord El-Melloi II Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note is a spin-off of Fate/Zero. After claiming a large inheritance from Adra Castle, Lord El-Melloi II goes to visit. However, he isn’t alone as others are also visiting. This leads to everyone competing in a game for the rewards of the castle. Lord El-Melloi II Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note is 13 episodes and has a one-episode OVA prequel.

5 Isekai Quartet

More or less an honorable mention, Isekai Quartet isn’t exactly a spin-off, but more of a crossover. While it isn’t based on a specific series, prior knowledge of four different anime is required. Isekai Quartet follows the protagonists from KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!, Overlord, Re:Zero: Starting Life in Another World, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil. Everyone is transported to a new world, fitting for the ultimate isekai, where they all attend school. Isekai Quartet makes the list because there are constant jokes from each respective series that wouldn’t be understood if not watching prior. The comedy-parody is 12-episodes and has been confirmed for a second season.

4 A Certain Scientific Railgun

Released during the fall 2009 season, A Certain Scientific Railgun is a spin-off series to A Certain Magical Index. The anime takes place in Academy City known for the esper development program. Mikoto Misaka is an esper and can manipulate electricity. Her level 5 version of this manipulation is called Railgun. After conflict breaks out across Academy City, Mikoto and her friends as they get involved with the different incidents. A Certain Scientific Railgun is 24-episodes and has a second season. The anime has been confirmed for a third season in 2020 and has a plethora of side stories.

3 Dragon Ball Z: The History of Trunks

Released in 1993, Dragon Ball Z: The History of Trunks is a spin-off in the Dragon Ball Z world. Taking place 13 years after androids began attacking humanity, the only fighter left is Gohan. Giving his life to save Trunks, and possibly the world, Trunks has to do what he can.

2 Pokemon: The Origin

Released in 2013, Pokemon: The Origin is a spin-off in the world of Pokemon. Instead of following Ash and his journey, the show follows the original story of Pokemon. A trainer named Red. Red journeys through the Kanto region. Thankfully, Red doesn’t make bad decisions like Ash did. During his journey Red meets many trainers including Green, catches Pokemon to complete his Pokedex, and battles Team Rocket. Like Ash his goal is to become champion. Pokemon: The Origin is four episodes.

1 Magic Kaito

Released in 2012, Magic Kaito is a spin off to the anime, Detective Conan: Conan and Crystal Mother. The adventure-comedy series follows Kaito Kuroba, a magician. Kaito finds a secret passage in his house concealing a lead on how his father, Touichi Kuroba, a famous magician, died. Kaito begins his adventure searching for the Pandora Gem and more clues about his father. Magic Kaito is 12 episodes and has a 24-episode alternate version.
