Favorites such as Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia returned with intriguing content that greatly propelled the plot of their stories. 2019 was also a year that saw the debut of new shows anime that could develop into really special stories.

10 MY HERO ACADEMIA Season 4 - 8.50

My Hero Academia is one of the most popular animes out at the moment, and in the fall of 2019, it returned with its fourth season. As of this current date, it is still airing and the season has picked right up from the excitement of last season. After All Might's final stand against All For One, the audience is introduced to the much-changed world where villains are far more rampant than before. The season has so far focused on Overhaul and his mafia, with Shigaraki making ominous moves in the shadows. These and many more factors make My Hero Academia season 4 a must-watch.

9 FRUITS BASKET - 8.32

Fruits Basket beautifully blends character relationships and interactions with the innate mystery of the Chinese zodiac. Drawing on the zodiac system ensured that the series could pull on some interesting lore and, when combined with the vibrant and interesting characters, it truly makes for a fantastic anime. Fruits Basket focuses on the story of Tooru Honda and her daily life. After tragedy struck and left Tooru homeless, without any familial support, she eventually comes across the Souma family and her life takes a sudden change for the better.

8 KARAKAI JOUZU NO TAKAGI-SAN SEASON 2 - 8.34

This anime takes a simple premise and managed to make one of the best anime of the year through efficient and effective writing. The characters in Karakai are all captivating and unique in their own ways.

For a long time now, Nishikata has been trying to tease his friend, Takagi, but, despite his attempts, he has not ever succeeded. On the other hand, Takagi finds it much easier to outwit Nishikata, much to his annoyance. The two share an interesting bond that is certain to excite even the most iron-hearted of men.

7 KAGUYA-SAMA WA KOKURASETAI - 8.42

Shuchin Academy is one of the most remarkable schools in this world, and its top two representatives are Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya. The two are the powerhouses of the school and they are in charge of the Student Council. Miyuki is the president and Kaguya serves as his vice president. The two are mildly infatuated with each other but, due to their overzealous competitive nature, they refuse to be the first to admit to their feelings as the first person to do so would be viewed as the loser.

6 DR. STONE - 8.49

The first season of Dr. Stone is adapted from the popular Shonen Jump series of the same name. It tells the story of Ishigami Senki, after he and most of humanity were suddenly petrified. This meant that humanity had lost all its scientific progress to that date but, after Senku is finally unpetrified, he sets off on a mission to restore science and get humans back to the moon. Though this might be unachievable for some, for Senku, a man devoted to science, the idea isn't so far fetched. The first season of Dr. Stone provided a brilliant foundation for the lore of the world, while also managing to introduce some interesting and lovable characters.

5 VINLAND SAGA - 8.61

For years, the fans of Vinland Saga have prayed for an anime adaptation of one of the best mangas to ever come out of Japan. In the Summer of 2019, that prayer was finally answered when Wit Studio delivered a brilliant adaptation of the source material. Vinland Saga switches focus between a few characters in this first season, with Thorfinn, Thors, Askeladd, and Canute.

Each character has unique goals and ambitions and, through influencing and interacting with each other, they grow, and this growth often leads to major plot development. Vinland Saga is a brilliant Nordic story, filled with passion, bravery, bloodshed, and betrayal, and is a must-watch anime this year.

4 THE PROMISED NEVERLAND - 8.69

The Promised Neverland sounds like an amazing world to live in and, for the children under the care of "Mama", it is their paradise —until the children of Grace Field find out the true nature of the world they lived in. Grace farm was believed to be their Utopia but, the truth is, it was nothing but a place where they lived their lives off as livestock, being allowed to mature fully before being given off to monsters. This premise, along with brilliant dramatic writing, made for one of the most captivating animes that has been released in recent years.

3 MOB PYSCHO 100 SEASON 2 - 8.89

Mob and his mentor, Reigen Arataka, return in the second season of Mob Pyscho 100, and their crazy adventures escalate even further, leading to even more powerful and interesting enemies for Mob to defeat. Mob has developed, not only as a psychic, but as a person, and he begins to truly understand his role in the world and what he needs to do to make himself happy. As Mob delves deeper into the unknown world, he realizes that the enemies he and Reigen will face will only get even more frightening. Despite this, a more mature Mob is much more prepared for the task at hand.

2 DEMON SLAYER - 8.92

Demon Slayer achieved a lot in 2019. The manga managed to sell more volumes than ever before, while the anime captivated the attention of a significant portion of the anime community. This was due to the strong writing and expert animation during its first season. Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inusuke, and Nezuko are some of the most memorable characters of the year, due to their vibrant and endearing personalities. So, its only natural to cheer for them in their fights against ravenous demons. These fights were well animated, which meant the action was pretty easy to follow, given the fluid nature of the fighting styles in Demon Slayer.

1 ATTACK ON TITAN SEASON 3 PART 2 - 9.07

Attack on Titan season 3 part 2 finally sees Eren Yaeger, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert return to their home in Shiganshina. They return with the survey corps, on a mission to plug up the hole in Wall Maria and make it to the basement at Eren's house. After returning to Wall Maria and closing the hole, the Survey Corps is attacked by the beast titans, Reiner and Bertolt. The battle has many casualties and was quite an intriguing spectacle. This season is packed with incredible information reveals and, by the end of it, the characters realize the world is even bigger than they once imagined.
