A new animated film set in the Mortal Kombat universe is reportedly in the works at Warner Bros. Pictures.

The project, tentatively titled Mortal Kombat 3, is set to feature five characters. The Illuminerdi has unveiled the character descriptions for the film, as well as the type of actors Warner Bros. is seeking for voice roles.

"Kobra" is described as a "fiery street fighter" with a raspy voice, while "Kira" is "troublesome, sadistic, cruel but level-headed" and has a "scratchy and textured voice." "Tremor" is an African American male who is meant to sound "intimidating and burly." Rounding out the cast is Mortal Kombat mainstay Kuai Liang, better known as Sub-Zero, and former Black Dragon member Kabal. Kuai Liang is described as being a "pacifist" in his 60s or 70s.

While plot details remain scarce at the moment, this casting description implies that Sub-Zero will be far older than Mortal Kombat fans are used to in this project.

Warner Bros. is also set to debut a live-action Mortal Kombat film this year. Produced by James Wan, the film is said to hew more closely to the video games -- especially in terms of gore. The film moved to 2021 in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
