News has been quiet for a long while on the animated Spider-Man film, but it seems that more is about to be revealed. The film's producers, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, freed from their duties on the Han Solo film, are teasing big news about Miles Morales' big screen debut for this weekend.
"In 2 Days," Miller tweeted via a Spider-Man logo. Not just any logo though; the tweet's image is the red and black of Miles Morales, voiced by Dope and The Get Down actor Shameik Moore. Liev Schreiber will voice the movie's yet-to-be-announced villain. The animated film is likely to be a stand-alone, not tying into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (although Miles's uncle appeared in Spider-Man Homecoming, as played by Donald Glover), the upcoming Sony Spider-verse films, or the upcoming Playstation game, which looks to include Miles as a major character.
As for the two day timeframe, this likely refers to Sony's movie panel at Comic Con Experience in Brazil. Hopefully we will see a new trailer, learn a bit more about the supporting cast, and finally see what this film looks like.
âItâs not going to feel like every other Spider-Man movie youâve seen,â Miller said last summer. âIt will stand on its own as a unique film-going experience.â
Miles Morales was created in 2011 by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli as part of Marvelâs Ultimate line of comics. Miles assumed the identity of Spider-Man after the death of that universeâs Peter Parker. Following the end of Marvelâs Ultimate imprint in 2015, Miles was integrated into Marvelâs main universe and is currently a part of the Champions team lineup.
The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters December 14, 2018.
