The following contains spoilers for Animal Kingdom Season 6, Episode 3, "Pressure and Time," and Episode 4, "Inside Man," which aired Sunday on TNT.

Animal Kingdom's sixth and final season kicked off with a two-episode premiere and continued the momentum with another two episodes. Season 6, Episode 3, "Pressure and Time," and Episode 4, "Inside Man," continue to follow the Codys post-Smurf as they size up a new job that entails ripping off a very high-end jewelry store. Meanwhile, the authorities are working in the background to solve the murder of Catherine Blackwell (Daniella Alonso). Pope (Shawn Hatosy), who committed the murder on Smurf's insistence back in Season 1, has a couple of things working against him. One, in particular, could involve an old face from his past implicating him in Cath's murder.

Many might assume this culprit is Lena (Aamya Deva Keroles), the daughter of Catherine and Baz (Scott Speedman). After all, Lena recounts being in Uncle Pope's car the night of Catherine's murder to the cold-case detective. Seeing it as a promising lead, the detective has already enlisted one of the young skateboarders that frequent Pope's growing park as an informant. That said, Lena may not be the only one to play a part in Pope's downfall. If the detective connects the right dots, they may lead her to Amy (Jen Landon) -- Pope's ex-girlfriend that played a prominent role in Animal Kingdom's second season.

Who Is Amy in Animal Kingdom?

Animal Kingdom - Pope and Amy

Amy first appeared in Season 2 and met Pope while he was scouting the church. Pope and his brothers planned to break into the church's safe to obtain the large sum of money raised by the religious fundraiser. While attending Bible studies led by Amy, the two became close before ultimately starting a serious romantic relationship, despite Baz's concerns. Amy played an instrumental role in Pope's Season 2 development as he grappled with his guilt over killing Cath and his resentment for Smurf. Amy also struggled with feelings of guilt and anger toward her own past after injuring and almost killing her son in a drunk driving accident. It was these emotions that first saw Pope and Amy gravitate toward each other before tearing them apart.

Could Amy Return in Animal Kingdom Season 6 to Bring Pope Down?

Animal Kingdom - Pope

It turns out that Baz's concerns about Amy and Pope's relationship were correct. After learning that Cath never actually talked to the police as Smurf suspected, Pope confesses his crime to Amy in Season 2, Episode 11, "The Leopard," saying he hurt a woman he loved because he thought she was going to hurt his family. He even goes as far as revealing how he killed her. Amy, horrified by the confession, reacts in disgust and anger, screaming at Pope to leave her house and stay away from her. After that, Amy remains terrified of Pope and his family.

As such, it's possible that Amy could return at some point in Animal Kingdom's sixth season. It wouldn't be too difficult for the detective to connect Amy and Pope. After all, Pope and Amy were both questioned about the church robbery, with each using the other as an alibi. If Amy were brought in for questioning, it could play out in a couple of different ways. One, Amy may keep her mouth shut given her fear of Pope and his family. Two, Amy could reveal what she knows about the murder and Pope's involvement, seeing it as the right thing to do because of her religious background. If the latter were to happen, this -- in conjunction with Lena's testimony -- could be enough to bring Pope down for good. For Pope fans, it is a scary thought, but one that remains pure speculation at this point in Season 6.

To see if Amy returns in Season 6, new episodes of Animal Kingdom air each Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on TNT.
