Nintendo first teased Super Mario-themed items for Animal Crossing: New Horizons in September, but the company revealed more details during its first Direct presentation of 2021. In addition to nearly two dozen Mario items, including clothing and furniture, the free Feb. 25 update will also include seasonal items for St. Patrick's Day and Pi Day.

Although New Horizons players have been hoping for a larger update to the game for some time, Nintendo did not reveal any plans for additional NPCs, events or mini-games during its Direct. Still, fans have plenty of new items to collect, which will hopefully hold them over until new features are announced.

Super Mario Items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons x Super Mario Bros.

As part of its Super Mario 35th anniversary celebration, Nintendo first announced themed furniture for Animal Crossing last fall. In its February Direct, it revealed footage of the new items, which include clothing, mushrooms, coins, blocks and even a working Warp Pipe that New Horizons players can use to travel from one part of their island to another.

When players download the free update on Feb. 25, they'll receive the Super Mario Wallpaper item from Nintendo, as a thank-you gift in their mailbox. Starting March 1, the following items will be available through the Promotion tab in Nook Shopping:

The above list may be incomplete, as Nintendo has not released a full item list. This article will be updated as more information is revealed. Furthermore, it's unclear if Nintendo will impose its "five items per day" rule for Nook Shopping during this promotion, seeing as there are so many items to acquire. More than likely, players will have to spread out their Super Mario purchases to collect everything. Nintendo has not said whether there is a time limit on these promotional items.

Spring Seasonal Items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players celebrate St. Patrick's Day

Meanwhile, Nintendo will also release a handful of seasonal items in the Feb. 25 update. These items were not revealed during the February Direct, but Animal Crossing World found the information on Nintendo's Japanese website.

To celebrate Japanese holiday Hinamatsuri, aka Doll's Day or Girls' Day, players can purchase two new items through Nook Shopping between Feb. 25 and March 3: the Girl's Day Doll Set and Bonbori Lamp. It seems these will be the only items available as soon as the update drops.

Starting March 1, players can order a Pi Day Pie, which features the mathematical symbol in its top crust. This item will be available until Pi Day, which March 14.

Finally, players can celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Starting March 10, a Shamrock Rug, Shamrock Door Plate and Shamrock Soda will be available through Nook Shopping. Players can purchase these until March 17. According to the promotional image from Nintendo, it seems there will also be themed clothing available at the Ables Sisters tailor shop, but details have yet to be revealed.

Unlike in past update trailers, Nintendo did not reveal when its next free update will be available for Animal Crossing: New Horizons players. This has caused some players to fret, but it seems unlikely that new content will stop being added to the game. Hopefully, Nintendo will have more to announce soon, including long-awaited features and highly-requested NPCs.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch. The next update will be available for download at 10 a.m. Japan time on Thursday, Feb. 25.
