Every Sunday in August, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players will get to experience fireworks shows. These start promptly at 7 p.m. and in addition to giving Isabelle custom designs for fireworks and receiving prizes from her, players can also buy raffle tickets from Redd, the shady art dealer.

Similar to the fortune cookies Redd sold during fireworks shows in past Animal Crossing titles, each raffle ticket will give the player a fun prize.

To purchase a raffle ticket, players must interact with Redd's stand, rather than Redd himself. If they talk to the fox, he'll tell them that prizes await them just a couple steps away. Standing directly in front of the stand and pressing A will trigger the raffle interaction, at which point players can start to purchase tickets.

Raffle tickets cost 500 Bells each and players can choose how many they want to buy, but they must buy individually; Redd will ask after each prize reveal if the player wants to keep going, at which point they can buy another ticket or walk away to enjoy the fireworks.

There are 12 possible prizes in all, each of which does something fun when the player pushes A while holding it. Some items have limited uses and it's also possible to trip while running with balloons, which will cause them to float away -- so be careful! The full list of raffle ticket prizes is below.

  • Pinwheel
  • Tweeter
  • Red sparkler
  • Blue sparkler
  • Fountain firework
  • Bubble flower
  • Uchiwa fan
  • Blue balloon
  • Red balloon
  • Pink balloon
  • Yellow balloon
  • Green balloon

Redd has been a staple of fireworks shows in past Animal Crossing titles, so his inclusion in this event in New Horizons makes sense. However, fans have already expressed frustration that Redd is guaranteed to appear every Sunday to sell raffle tickets and give out prizes, when appearances from his Treasure Trawler -- where players can acquire art for their museum -- are much fewer and farther between.

NPC visits were re-tooled in the July 3 New Horizons update, which has led to certain NPCs appearing more often than before. However, each visit is randomly generated, so there's no guarantee of how long players will have to wait before seeing a specific visitor again. In the case of Redd and his art, this has been particularly annoying for players who are striving to complete their museum collections -- especially if they don't time travel or "farm" his visits.

Fireworks shows begin Sunday, Aug. 2 in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and will happen weekly for the rest of the month.
