The July update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons added a variety of new features to the game, including a new encounter with Gullivarr and the return of Pascal. But the update's biggest addition the return of swimming a diving in the ocean surrounding the player's island, a feature that debuted in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. With the help of the wet suit, players can dive down into the sea and collect sea creatures, which can be donated to the museum or, in the case of the scallop, traded with Pascal for DIY recipes.

Swimming in the water is as simple as walking up the edge of the water and pressing the A button. You can also jump off a cliff or the pier by also pressing A, but there is also a hidden feature that comes with the wet suit: the ability to do a front flip into the water.

Unlike a regular jump, a front flip happens when you run up to a cliff and jump right into the water. To perform this cool little move, hold down B and run forward. When you reach the edge of a cliff or a pier, press the A button without letting go of B or the left stick to front flip into the water. So far, there does not seem to be a height limit for cliff jumping, so you can perform this action at any height as long as the game allows you to jump into the water from that area.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons July 3 Update

Animal Crossing fans have been celebrating the new swimming update since its release, sharing tweets and videos of the sea creatures they have collected and the group swimming sessions they've been having with friends. Though the actions you can perform while swimming are limited only to paddling and diving, that hasn't stopped players from making the most out of what's there.

It's also opened up the possibility of even more additions to the game. Similar to how players can learn new reactions from villagers, Animal Crossing could introduce new jumps and swimming styles that are unlocked though a similar method. These could greatly expand the swimming mechanic and add another nice personal touch to each player's experience. Since villagers already go fishing and catch bugs like the players do, another update could give them the ability to swim in the ocean just like players do.
