Of all the characters from past Animal Crossing games that fans hope to see return in a future update, Brewster, the pigeon who runs The Roost cafe may be the most frequently requested. Nintendo seems to be aware of how much fans want him to return, as there are numerous references to the character and his cafe in the game, such as in villager dialogue, furniture and even lines of code. Some fans expected Brewster to be adding in either the Fall or Winter updates, as the colder seasons are the perfect time for hot beverages.

Starting in Wild World, Brewster ran a cafe located inside the town's Museum. Players could visit daily and order coffee, even forming a friendship with Brewster by drinking their coffee piping hot over the course of several visits. Eventually, Brewster will also start offering the player sugar and milk for their coffee.

While The Roost served the same role in City Folk, New Leaf made significant changes. For one, the cafe became its own building, and players could even work at the cafe serving drinks to villagers and special characters and earning rewards for getting their coffee orders right.

Some fans are hoping for an eventual Brewster return since he's one of the few NPCs who can be befriended. While Brewster starts out as a pigeon of few words, after chatting with him over a warm beverage, he clearly warms up to the player. The fact that players can sometimes get items too is really just a bonus. The part-time job feature also provided another way to interact with villagers. The Animal Crossing games do a lot to make the game world feel alive and real, and Brewster and The Roost were nice touches that added life to a town.

There have been plenty of hints towards Brewster finally coming to New Horizons. For one, dataminers have found references to the Museum's cafe in New Horizon's code. This means that the cafe was either cut from the game or is planned to return later on. There are also lines of dialogue from some villagers that reference Brewster and The Roost. Interestingly, during these, Brewster's name and the cafe's name are both highlighted the way other important names are, supporting the idea that they are either cut content or coming down the line.

Isabelle also may be hinting towards how New Horizons will bring The Roost back. She suggests, when talking about how to improve an island's rating, that more stores could always help. However, she'll continue saying this even after all available shops have been built, implying that there may more stores added in an update.

Of course, previous hints point towards The Roost being incorporated into a Museum update, but that could have been an older plan that changed at some point in development. Regardless of how it is done, the mounting evidence has only made fans more eager to see their favorite pigeon barista join their New Horizons island escape sooner rather than later.
