"The Angry Birds Movie" opened this weekend in North America with a $39 million nest egg, more than enough to push "Captain America: Civil War" from the top of the box office.

Sony and Rovio's animated adaptation of the smash-hit mobile game, "Angry Birds" earned an estimated $94 million worldwide this weekend, taking its total to $150 million.

Don't shed any tears for Marvel Studios, though: "Civil War" grossed another $33.1 million in its fourth weekend of release, bringing its domestic total to $347.4 million. The No. 1 movie of 2016 worldwide, the sequel crossed the $1 billion mark on Friday.

The Hollywood Reporter notes it's the 10th Disney feature to reach the $1-billion milestone, and the 19th-highest grossing film of all time globally (and it's not quite finished yet).

"Civil War" will close the weekend at No. 2 in the U.S. box office, followed distantly at No. 3 by "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising" with $21.8 million, a drop of 56 percent from the 2014 original. The action-comedy "The Nice Guys" finished at fourth with $11.3 million.
