After two theatrically released animated movies, the popular Angry Birds mobile game franchise is being adapted for television by Netflix.

Netflix has announced a full series order for the animated series, titled Angry Birds: Summer Madness, set to premiere some time next year. The series will be produced by the British animation studio Cake Entertainment and Angry Birds developer Rovio Entertainment.

The series order includes the production of 40 eleven-minute short episodes, following the main cast of Red, Bomb and Chuck as they attend a summer camp run by counselor Mighty Eagle where hijinks predictably ensue. While the series serves as an expansion of the world established by the two films, it is currently unknown if the principal voice cast will reprise their roles. Similarly, Netflix has revealed that the animated series will feature a different look than the two films and provide an accessible start for those that may not necessarily be familiar with the movies.

Developed by the Finnish entertainment company Rovio, Angry Birds takes place in a wacky world where birds propel themselves to destroy structures built by nefarious pigs. Sony and Rovio produced a theatrical film released in 2016, which received a direct sequel this past August.
