In general, anime heroes are known for their even temperament and rationality. Their ability to stay calm under dire circumstances typically makes them more likable with audiences and conveys them as refined paragons of morality.
However, there are dozens of heroes who lack such restraint. To the contrary, they allow their rage to control and even empower them in their darkest moments. Although such methods may pay off sometimes, it can also portend disastrous results where not only their intended targets get hurt. Regardless, their anger is a fantastic, humanizing flaw that makes the heroes' personalities more believable.
10 Inuyasha Was Vulnerable To His Demonic Nature
Inuyasha
The titular protagonist of Inuyasha did not always act morally. As a half-demon, there were instances when he lost control. In his feral state, Inuyasha ripped opponents to shreds with his bare hands and endangered Kagome. Even in his ordinary form, Inuyasha had a cantankerous personality that often put him at odds with others.
For example, he did not take Shippo's pranks lightly and developed a fierce rivalry with Koga over the way he treated Kagome. In some instances, Kagome forced him to heel by issuing the "Sit!" command. It usually defused his anger, transforming it into annoyance.
9 Meliodas Was The Sin Of Wrath With Good Reason
Seven Deadly Sins
In general, Meliodas was the pleasant main protagonist of Seven Deadly Sins. However, his demonic nature made him prone to outbursts of rage in emotionally vulnerable moments. For example, he once killed Fraudrin in a single punch despite his opponent having already forfeited.
Although Meliodas' demon state sometimes empowered him, it became a serious issue if left unchecked. Toward the end of the series, he almost completely lost control and engaged Escanor in a deadly melee.
8 Naofumi Struggled With His Rage
The Rising Of The Shield Hero
Naofumi often struggled to control his anger in The Rising Of The Shield Hero. His disposition was warranted. In addition to being ripped from his home, Malty immediately defamed him and destroyed his reputation.
As a result, Naofumi became standoffish with the other cardinal heroes and blatantly hostile toward the royalty of Melromarc. Although the Queen's arrival helped to disarm the situation, it was difficult for him to forget what had been done to him. Over time, Naofumi even discovered the "Rage Shield" technique, which exchanged control for dark power.
7 Mikasa Had Little Compassion Toward Enemies
Attack On Titan
Mikasa was almost as ruthless as Eren in Attack On Titan. Those who threatened his safety or Paradis' success were seldom addressed mercifully. For instance, she told Historia that she was going to kill Ymir regardless of her attempts to make peace between them.
When Reiner announced the Warriors' true identity, Mikasa didn't hesitate to cut him down without hesitation. Additionally, she nearly killed him during the battle for Shiganshina through a flurry of thunder spears. Mikasa only bridled her anger when preventing Eren's Rumbling since too many innocents would have been hurt for her to live with herself.
6 Asuka Constantly Lashed Out At Others
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Asuka demonstrated her insecurity in virtually all of the screen time she had in Neon Genesis Evangelion. Having suffered a neglectful childhood, she constantly jockeyed for attention and to surpass her peers. When Shinji began to ignore and outperform her, Asuka had a horrible breakdown.
It was a dark reminder that as necessary as pilots might have been, their age and immaturity rendered them ill-suited for such serious responsibilities. Shinji may have struggled with doubt, though Asuka handled pressure the worst of the three pilots.
5 Ace Was Easy To Provoke
One Piece
"Fire Fist" Ace had perhaps the worst temper of any One Piece hero. Although rightfully indignant for Thatch's murder, it was unwise of him to pursue Blackbeard's entire crew by himself. This predictably resulted in his capture, prompting the Whitebeard Pirates' daring invasion of Marineford.
Just as it seemed as though Ace would escape, Akainu insulted Whitebeard's memory. This prompted Ace to rejoin the fight, inhibiting the escape effort and eventually getting him killed. Because of Ace's anger, the heroes had little to show for the attack on the World Government.
4 Scar Hated Amestris For What Happened To Ishval
Fullmetal Alchemist
Scar was an unlikely antihero in Fullmetal Alchemist. Although loathing all of Amestris for Ishval's destruction, he eventually realized that men like Kimbley and Bradley were the root of his suffering. To this extent, he joined the heroes' efforts in overthrowing the capital and defeating them.
In the end, Scar had to overcome his superstition against alchemy in order to defeat Bradley and claim his retribution. The villain's death gave him peace and meant that he finally avenged his brother.
3 Bakugo's Anger Motivated Him
My Hero Academia
Bakugo was handily the angriest character in My Hero Academia. Constantly shouting and challenging others, he adored a good fight and the opportunity to prove himself as the best. Although Bakugo's disposition was sometimes toxic, it worked to the heroes' advantage.
For instance, it made him too indignant to join the League Of Villains and gave him the courage necessary to help Deku against Shigaraki. With Bakugo's fury tempered by All Might's wisdom, he had the chance to surpass his competition.
2 Kid's Rage Kept Getting Him In Trouble
One Piece
Captain Kid was among the most powerful members in the Worst Generation. However, his ego and rage constantly put him in compromising situations, such as when he tried to take Kaido down by himself. The time Kid spent in Udon did little to calm him down, especially after seeing what Orochi did to his first mate, Killer.
Although refusing to formally ally with the samurai's invasion, Kid proved a tremendous boon to their efforts and nearly took down Big Mom by drowning her. Kid might refuse Luffy's orders and challenge impossible opponents, though his strength warranted such recklessness.
1 Kurapika Never Let Go Of His Hatred
Hunter X Hunter
Forced to live through the death of his entire clan, Kurapika was Hunter X Hunter's most tragic character. He dedicated every action toward revenge against the Phantom Troupe and had the perfect opportunity at the end of the Yorknew arc.
However, restraint did not give Kurapika the peace that Gon and Killua promised him. He continued to stew over the Phantom Troupe's escape to such an extent he didn't even visit Gon in the hospital. Unlike other heroes, Kurapika's inability to find closure left him deeply unsatisfied and resentful.
