My Hero Academia stars the kind-hearted trainee hero Izuku Midoriya and his explosive rival and classmate, the notorious Katsuki Bakugo. In many of his scenes, Bakugo is angry, snappy, or at least impatient to prove himself, and his hot temper is the stuff of legends. He even has an explosion-based Quirk to match.

Bakugo is known for his anger, but his rage seems superficial and is difficult to justify. Katsuki Bakugo grew up in a stable and loving household, and now he's a star student at Japan's top school. He's doing quite well, and he should learn to be grateful for all these wonderful things and cool his head for once. In contrast, there are plenty of angrier anime characters whose fury is both stronger and much more justified.

10 Thorfinn Karlsefni Burns With Vengeful Fury (Vinland Saga)

thorfinn vinland saga

The Viking antihero Thorfinn Karlsefni was once a happy and carefree boy in his native Iceland, but then he snuck aboard his kind father Thors' ship to experience some adventures firsthand. This means the young Thorfinn was present when the scheming Askeladd slew Thors in a battle at the Faroe Islands.

Thorfinn's attitude changed at once. He was immediately consumed with bitter hatred and anger toward his father's killer, and his sheer anger and thirst for revenge are what sustained him for years after that. But in the end, it was all for nothing.

The wandering swordsman called Guts is known for many things, ranging from his oversized dragon slayer sword to his whirlwind love affair with Casca to his berserker rage toward his traitorous best friend, Griffith. Guts knows better than anyone that Griffith has a lot to answer for.

Guts is almost always angry, even if he tries to hide it, and the slightest provocation will set his heart ablaze in his quest to slay Griffith and the God Hand at last. Just a hint of the God Hand is enough to push Guts over the edge and fly into a chaotic rage, hellbent on Griffith's destruction.

8 Eren Yeager Roared In Anger When The Titans Attacked (Attack On Titan)

Eren Yeager with his Titan marks in Attack On Titan.

In some ways, the shonen antihero Eren Yeager is like Thorfinn, since both characters enjoyed a happy, innocent boyhood until disaster struck and their family was shattered forever. One day in the year 845, Eren's world was turned upside-down when Wall Maria fell and flesh-eating Titans muscled their way in.

7 Kyo Sohma's Anger Runs Deep (Fruits Basket)

kyo sohma fruits basket

The shojo love interest Kyo Sohma doesn't shout "DIE!" and blow people up with a Quirk, and he has been known to be Mr. Romantic instead of Mr. Angry at times. But even so, Kyo's anger is intense and thoroughly justified, given the terrible hand that fate dealt him. It's not easy being the zodiac's cat.

Kyo endured a lifetime of verbal and emotional abuse as the cat, being told he's a disgusting and unwanted monster who brings misery to all. No wonder this explosive tsundere is so hotheaded and miserable all the time, and he often takes it out on Kyo and even Kagura. He's got some serious personal baggage to deal with.

6 Prince Zuko's Heart Burns With Passion (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The Firebender prince Zuko was always known for his anger in Avatar: The Last Airbender, to the point where people would give him nicknames such as "prince pouty" and "the angry jerk." Sure enough, Zuko has a hot temper and is easily provoked, but he's not a monster. He simply suffered at the hands of his father, Ozai.

Zuko was indeed furious, but most of all, he was angry at himself and later admitted it. He had a lot on his plate, to say the least, and he didn't always handle it well. In the end, though, Zuko grew wiser and figured out his true destiny, which brought him some inner peace at last.

5 Ghiacchio Gets Angry Over The Tiniest Things (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

ghiaccio is angry

The ice-slinging Stand user named Ghiaccio is actually voiced by the same voice actor as Bakugo, Nobuhiko Okamoto, and it shows. Both characters are prone to going into a rage, and Ghiaccio's blistering-hot temper contrasts sharply with his frigid ice powers. It's a curious combination.

Ghiaccio amused JoJo's viewers when he worked himself up into a rage over minor details such as how to say Venice's name, and he gets pretty angry in battle, too. He loses his cool no matter how cold his ice gets, and in a similar vein, Fugo and Narancia also have rather hot tempers.

4 Naofumi Iwatani Raged At The Unfair World (The Rising Of The Shield Hero)

Naofumi with fire in The Rising of the Shield Hero.

Over time, the isekai protagonist Naofumi Iwatani learned to embrace the power of friendship and hope over raw fury and resentment, but his anger was never fully extinguished. Naofumi's bigger anger is what sustained him during his journey, but it wasn't sustainable, even when he unlocked the fearsome Wrath Shield. Naofumi's rage at the world slowly subsided as people began to accept him, but when the villain Kyo Ethnina provoked him, Naofumi's fury came right back.

3 Yammy Llargo's Anger Powers Him Up (Bleach)

bleach yammy released form

A few anime characters can actually weaponize their emotions, such as the heroes of Jujutsu Kaisen, who can fuel their curse energy with negative emotions. Then there's Bleach's villain Yammy Llargo, the 10th Espada whose entire theme is unbridled rage.

Yammy is always brutal and eager to fight, and he gets angered very easily in battle. Then he can release his zanpakuto, Ira, and become a titanic monster who grows even larger and stronger as his opponents enrage him in battle. He's like a villainous Incredible Hulk, and it's more than Bakugo could ever manage.

2 Vegeta Is The Furious Saiyan Prince (Dragon Ball)

Anime Vegeta is Angry

The Saiyan prince Vegeta is known for many things, from his fiercely competitive and angry personality to his endless rivalry with Son Goku to his tsundere ways with his wife, the lovely Bulma. Vegeta's character arc is a rather complex one in the long run, though it can still be simplified to "he's angry."

Vegeta is quick to lose his cool or fly into a rage, especially if his pride and reputation are questioned or put in peril. He'll even take it out on training bots and smash them to bits, which calls for a frustrated mechanic to fix them.

1 Edward Elric Has A Towering Temper (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

Edward Elric Angry

The state alchemist Edward Elric is actually kinder and much more selfless than Katsuki Bakugo, so, despite his anger, Edward is a more wholesome and upstanding shonen character overall. But even so, Edward is easily provoked and can be downright petty about his anger, especially if he's being mocked.

Ed is the one who yelled furiously at a little girl who called him an amoeba, and he will even kick people or threaten to punt Selim Bradley to outer space if Selim comments on his height one more time. His brother Alphonse is definitely the calmer and more mature of the duo.
