As we speed toward its June 3 premiere, it seems like Fox is releasing a new promo every day for X-Men: First Class. But you know what? I'm okay with that, as each new TV spot or clip makes the Matthew Vaughn-directed film look that much more impressive. And that's quite an accomplishment given the shakiness of some of the initial marketing.

The latest sneak peek cranks up the ominous, pulse-pounding music while introducing some new footage, most notably of Darwin (Edi Gathegi), Angel Salvadore (Zoe Kravitz) and Emma Frost (January Jones) in action. It's our first look at Darwin using his mutant ability -- he's been all but absent from the previous trailers -- which in Marvel comics is "reactive evolution," enabling him to adapt to whatever the situation demands. For instance, if he’s submerged in water, he grows functioning gills; if he’s in darkness, he gains night vision. I'm not sure that Vaughn & Co. are interpreting the power the same way in First Class, but it certainly looks cool.

X-Men: First Class also stars James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr, Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven Darkholme,  Lucas Till as Alex Summers/Havok, Caleb Landry Jones as Sean Cassidy/Banshee, Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw, Oliver Platt as the Man in Black, Jason Flemyng as Azazel and Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggart.

X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.
