With the 20th anniversary of Angel quickly approaching, star Amy Acker discussed the possibility of reprising her role as Winifred "Fred" Burkle/Illyria for a prospective Season 6.
During a reunion with the cast and crew, Acker told Entertainment Weekly she's ready for a revival, explaining, “Every show should be this fun. We were so spoiled.”
During the fifth and final season, Fred lost her soul and her body became the host for the ancient demon Illyria. In the last episode, Illyria teamed up with Angel (David Boreanaz), the vampire with a soul, to bring about the end of the world and fight the evil Senior Partners of Wolfram & Hart.
The cast, minus Boreanaz, announced it will reunite at New York Comic-Con in October.
Spinning out of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel ran on The WB for five seasons from 1999 to 2004, featuring several characters from the original supernatural series. Created by Joss Whedon and David Greenwalt, the series was the highest-rated program cancelled by the network in 2004, reportedly due to a request for an early renewal from Whedon. The characters and storylines have since been continued through licensed comic books published by Dark Horse Comics. BOOM! Studios is currently releasing stories of the Buffyverse in a rebooted reality.
