Bojack Horseman is an iconic fan-favorite animated television show. With such a cult following, it's hard to imagine anyone being able to create a show that tackles the nuances of fame and the human condition in such a unique and funny way. If there is someone who could pull that off, it's talented SNL alum Andy Samberg. Samberg has announced that his next television outing after the extremely successful Brooklyn Nine-Nine will be with an animated adult comedy called Digman! on Comedy Central.

Variety has revealed that Digman! will be set in "a world where archeologists are massive celebrities and the coolest people on the planet." This twist on the public's perception of fame is very similar to Bojack Horseman's satirical critique of the concept. Digman! is set to have a star-studded cast, including Melissa Fumero and Tim Robinson, along with powerhouse creatives that will help propel the show into something truly special -- much like Bojack Horseman did during its first season.

Andy Samberg has been announced to be playing the lead role, Rip Digman, on the animated series. Samberg will be joined by fellow Brooklyn Nine-Nine writer Neil Campbell to serve as showrunner. Both are well experienced in television and nuanced writing, having just come off the heels of Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8. The final season tackled the tragic death of George Floyd and the backlash against the police that ensued. The pair achieved a blend of comedy along with serious topics that presents thought-provoking ideas, much like Bojack Horseman did throughout its run.

A show about a washed up actor who's also a horse initially doesn't seem like it would dive into the minutia of existentialism, and yet Bojack Horseman provided a refreshing take on the depiction of fame and how the public regards celebrities. Digman! and its eccentric concept evokes the same kind of setup. With Samberg talented enough to pull off the themes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine as well as his zaniness displayed during his time on SNL, his new show is bound to fill the hole that Bojack Horseman has left in the adult animation world.

Few animated shows have made as large an impact in so short a time as Bojack Horseman. It paved the way for a new kind of storytelling that has been apparent in the way comedy manifests in current media. Shows like Barry and Abbott Elementary use comedy to tackle important, and often hard-to-swallow, concepts. The world of adult animated comedies is in desperate need of a show that's up to the challenge of carrying Bojack Horseman's legacy.

Samberg has proven time and time again, surrounded by a group of incredibly talented people, that he can pull through. With such a wild concept mixed with the creative talent behind it, Digman! is going to be something special. Bojack Horseman left some pretty big shoes to fill, but Digman! might just exceed expectations.
