The following contains spoilers for Andor Season 1, now streaming on Disney+.

Fans are looking forward to Andor Season 2, with its use of time jumps set to provide a remedy for the show's pacing problems. The first season of the Rogue One prequel followed Cassian Andor throughout his first encounters with the Galactic Empire and the fledgling Rebellion. Andor is noteworthy for being different from previous TV series set in the Star Wars galaxy; it focuses on the regular people who helped build the Rebellion rather than the larger-than-life heroes and villains whose adventures define the rest of the saga.

Andor's darker, more grounded approach to Star Wars has been well-received by fans and critics alike. However, the series hasn't gone completely without criticism. An issue regularly mentioned by fans has been the pacing of the first season, which is often described as a slow burn. Based on what's been revealed about Season 2, it sounds like this issue won't persist into the rest of Andor's limited run.

How Andor's Season 2 Timeline Will Fix Pacing Issues

The first season of Andor takes place entirely in the year 5 BBY -- five years before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and Rogue One. Andor Season 2 will jump forward in time from Season 1 while also featuring several time jumps during its 12 episodes. This is because the second season will cover a four-year span. The season will begin in 4 BBY and take Cassian right up to the events seen in Rogue One.

While Andor Season 1 was able to take its time with Cassian's first struggles against the Empire over a single year, Season 2 has a lot more narrative ground to cover in the same number of episodes. Season 1 ended with Cassian being brought into the Rebellion proper by Luthen, but Season 2 will chart his journey as he rises through the ranks and becomes part of the fully-fledged Rebel Alliance once it takes shape. The galaxy around Cassian is going to be a rapidly changing environment as well when the all-out civil war begins between the Empire and the Rebels. With so much to illustrate, Andor Season 2 will progress a lot faster than Season 1.

What To Expect From Andor Season 2

Mon Mothma stands with a serious expression in the imperial senate chamber

Rogue One's reprogrammed Imperial security droid K-2SO will appear in Andor's second season, which will presumably explain how the droid fell into the Rebellion's hands and came to be reprogrammed. Fans of Rogue One and the animated series Star Wars Rebels may also be able to guess at a few other events Season 2 of Andor will have to include. By the time of Rogue One, Cassian seems familiar with the planet Jedha and with Rebel extremist Saw Gerrera, with whom he had yet to cross paths as of the end of Season 1. Cassian will likely encounter both during Season 2.

The second season of Andor will also have to chart Mon Mothma's transition from an outspoken senator covertly funding Rebel activities to the militant leader of the Rebel Alliance. This is territory that was previously covered on Star Wars Rebels, which saw Mon Mothma deliver the Declaration of Rebellion to Rebel cells scattered across the galaxy, officially founding the Rebellion. How Andor will tackle such a key moment in the Rebellion's history is unclear. As the Rebellion grows, Andor will have to reveal Luthen's fate as well -- despite being a key force behind the Rebellion, he was never seen in Rogue One, Rebels or the original Star Wars trilogy. That suggests he will die sometime in Season 2. Yet with all these changes, the biggest one is that the series will be as fast-paced as audiences have been clamoring for.

Andor Season 1 is currently streaming on Disney+, and Season 2 is expected in 2024.
