A sneak peek at the next episode of Andor puts Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) on thin ice with the Galactic Empire during the early days of the Rebellion.Shared by Twitter TV, the official clip from Andor Episode 4 -- which is slated to hit Disney+ tomorrow, Sept. 28 -- features a meeting between Mon Mothma and Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård). In it, Luthen Rael questions if the budding Rebellion can still count on Mon Mothma's financial support. The latter assures that "the money's there," though it's become more dangerous for her to move it around, as the Empire appears to be catching on to her treachery.RELATED: Andor Showrunner Explains Why He Isn't Directing the Star Wars Series

"I can't pull funds the way I used to," Mon Mothma says. "They're watching me now... They're everywhere. There's a new spy every day at the Senate. I visit the bank, they're all new faces... I feel under siege." She then informs Luthen Rael that she has a new potential ally waiting in the wings -- and makes it very clear that she understands the risks of bringing someone new into their inner circle.

The first season of Andor takes place five years before the events of the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which itself takes place immediately before the events of the original Star Wars film from 1977. So, as of Andor Season 1, the Rebel Alliance has yet to be officially formed. In the early days of the Rebellion, efforts to undermine the Empire were largely disorganized, primarily being carried out by individual Rebel cells (as chronicled in the early seasons of the animated series Star Wars Rebels).

The Rebel Alliance as we know it in the original Star Wars trilogy was officially formed in the third season of Rebels, with Mon Mothma -- who had long been working against the Empire -- as its de facto leader. Rebels Season 3 is set approximately three years after the events of Andor Season 1. However, Andor Season 2 will fill in the four years between Season 1 and Rogue One, meaning viewers will likely see the formation of the proper Rebel Alliance play out in live-action before all is said and done.

Mon Mothma Is a Major Player in Star Wars: Andor

While Andor primarily focuses on Rebel-spy-to-be Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), Mon Mothma has a major role to play in the series as well. The leader of the Rebel Alliance was originally portrayed by Caroline Blakiston in 1983's Return of the Jedi. O'Reilly played the character in 2005's Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, though most of her speaking scenes were cut from the final film. Nevertheless, O'Reilly eventually reprised the role in Rogue One before once again playing Mon Mothma in Andor.

"We really get to develop her as a character, and we get to learn about her not just as a senator, but as a woman," O'Reilly said of Mon Mothma's role in Andor earlier this month. "[We learn] what her life is like, what she has to wrestle with, what are the dangers to her life, what it costs to be her... We see her talking to senators, and then we meet her at home with her husband. We see the public and the private. We see her literally and figuratively take off her cloak and reveal herself as a woman in a way we've never seen before."
