Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy gave fans an update regarding K-2SO's involvement in the upcoming Star Wars Disney+ series.

Gilroy confirmed that actor Alan Tudyk isn't currently signed on to voice the reprogrammed Imperial enforcer droid in Andor, during an interview with Vanity Fair. "We don’t have Alan Tudyk," he said. "Not yet, anyway." K-2SO first appeared in 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and quickly became one of the spinoff's breakout characters. While K-2SO was destroyed towards the end of the film, Andor is set at an earlier point in the Star Wars timeline, leaving the door open for the sarcastic droid's return.

Gilroy previously opened up about Andor's storyline, including the events that will lead protagonist Cassian Andor to join the Rebellion. "His adopted home will become the base of our whole first season, and we watch that place become radicalized," he said. "Then we see another planet that's completely taken apart in a colonial kind of way. The Empire is expanding rapidly. They're wiping out anybody who's in their way."

The showrunner also promised that Andor will challenge fans' understanding of Star Wars canon. "There are certain people, characters that are legacy characters, that the audience, the passionate audience, really feels that they have an understanding of and know. In some cases, they're right. And in some cases, what we're saying is, 'What you know, what you've been told, what's on Wookieepedia, what you've been telling each other... is really all wrong," he said.

Despite Gilroy's descriptions of the series, Andor remains the subject of intense secrecy. Diego Luna, who plays the show's titular character, recalled taking a phone call from Gilroy in a Mexico City cab ride, during which he resorted to "speaking in code words because I was trying not to say too much in the car." Luna further revealed that he's remained tight-lipped about Andor's plot and character details around anyone outside the production, even his own children.

One such detail could include the presence of the Emperor's Royal Guard. These elite protectors are rumored to appear in the Disney+ series during a scene set at the Imperial Senate. The Emperor's Royal Guard debuted in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and was later seen in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One. The red-clad warriors also feature in several episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Despite their recurring role in the saga, members of the Emperor's Royal Guard have yet to be officially confirmed to appear in Andor.

Andor arrives on Disney+ in 2022.
