The Jennifer Lopez-led sci-fi/horror film Anaconda will be soon receiving a reboot thanks to Columbia Pictures.

The Hollywood Reporter broke news of the Anaconda reboot, revealing Snow White and the Huntsman writer Evan Daugherty has been tapped to pen the film's script. the new Anaconda film is described as a "reimagining" of the first and will reportedly mimic the style of the Jason Statham-led monster movie The Meg.

In addition to Snow White and the Huntsman, Daugherty has written the scripts for 2014's Divergent, 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and 2016's The Huntsman: Winter's War. He also wrote the story for 2018's Tomb Raider with Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

Directed by Luis Llosa, the original Anaconda film first premiered on April 11, 1997 through Columbia Pictures. The film starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube and Jon Voight, among others. Several sequels have been released since the premiere of the first film, including 2004's Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid and 2009's Anacondas: Trail of Blood. 

Despite receiving negative reviews from critics (the film currently sits at 40 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 4.8/10 on IMDb), the original Anaconda grossed over $136.8 million globally.

There is no word on when the Anaconda reboot will go into production, nor has a released date been revealed. There is also no word on who Sony will tap to direct the film, nor who will star in it.
