Amy Chu Takes On Red Sonja in New Dynamite Series

Following up her Dynamite Entertainment debut on "KISS," "Poison Ivy" scribe Amy Chu will take on the She-Devil herself. Alongside "Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files" artist Carlos Gomez, Chu will kick off her "Red Sonja" run with a 25-cent #0 issue this December.

According to the official series description,

Somewhere deep underground, strange and powerful demons clad in metal armor attack and roust Red Sonja from a deep magical sleep. Confused and weaponless, she must find a way to defeat these mysterious creatures, escape from her solitary prison, and make her way to the surface to discover where she is, and why she was put there...

"I want to represent Red Sonja in the purest way possible. She's a warrior, first and foremost. She's familiar with a certain way of life, a certain way of fighting. What if we take that away and put her in a completely new environment where she's forced to adapt? Let's get her out of her comfort zone and see where Red Sonja goes from there!" Chu said of her upcoming series. "Scott Snyder is doing that right now in 'All-Star Batman,' taking Batman out of Gotham and putting him on the road, and I think that's quite exciting. It's a win-win, something refreshing for the readers, and a great challenge for the creative team. There's going to be a lot of action and adventure with a little splash of mystery, and we're going to see her abilities tested in new ways, all starting with Issue #0."

"I have really enjoyed Amy's work to date, from 'Poison Ivy' to 'Vertigo Quarterly CMYK,' 'Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman' to 'Strange Sports Stories.' We've been speaking about her working with the team at Dynamite for quite some time, but it had to be the right project. As the stars aligned, we ended up finding not one, but two projects to work on together," shared Dynamite CEO and Publisher, Nick Barrucci. "After seeing what she had done with 'KISS,' we knew she was the perfect choice for our favorite Hyrkanian warrior. Pairing her with Carlos Gomez, who had been doing such great work for us on the Dresden Files books, is perfection. We have such incredible faith in the series that we're launching it at the introductory price of $0.25, just to get it into the most hands possible. I can't wait to see where the series goes from here!"

With a cover by Nick Bradshaw, "Red Sonja" #0 goes on sale in December. Two additional incentive covers will also be announced in the near feature.
