One feature of Among Us that continues to make the game fun and refreshing is the ability for players to create their own set of rules and game modes within the original. Players have created a custom hide-and-seek game mode with certain rules alongside necessary in-game settings.

Many versions can be found as friends groups and discord servers begin to form house rules, modifying these fan-made game modes further. This can only be played with a group of friends and not random players as there are rules that need to be followed for games to be successful. Here is everything you need to know to set up your own game of hide-and-seek with your friends, as well as tips to make the game that much more interesting.

Hide and Seek Settings

There will only be one imposter in a group of 4-10 players. Player speed can be changed based on your group’s preference, but 1.5x will be sufficient. Keep crewmate vision anywhere between 2-5x and imposter vision at the lowest, 0.25x. It’s important to have the imposter vision much lower to keep the crewmate's chance of survival up.

Kill cooldown should be anywhere between 10-20, as raising the time will negatively impact imposter win rates. You'll also want to make sure to adjust accordingly to your group’s skill level. Visual tasks are turned off to add to crewmate stealth. Like the kill cooldown, you can change the number of tasks to adjust for difficulty, but the recommended tasks are 2 common, 1 long and 3 short. You may find that the imposter is winning too much and, in those cases, consider removing the long task.

Hide and Seek Rules

Electrical sabotage

The rules are an essential part of the game, so everyone must follow them. As soon as the round begins, the imposter announces themselves. If you are not playing in a voice call, you can call an emergency meeting at the beginning and the imposter can announce themselves there; just make sure everyone skips to vote. After the imposter is known, they will sabotage lights.

Crewmates aren’t allowed to call bodies or emergency meetings. Once the imposter sabotages lights, they will wait 20 seconds to give crewmates a head start before beginning their reign of nearly blind terror. Lights are not to be fixed at any point. Crewmates win after their tasks have been completed and the imposter wins after killing enough people.

Changing It Up

Impostors Win The Game

While the game mode is fun on its own, there are a few things you can add for more laughs with friends. The first is to keep open mics for everyone but the imposter. This is highly recommended as the laughs and screams are not ones to be forgotten. After announcing themselves at the start, the imposter immediately deafens themselves in the voice call so that they can’t hear the other players. Crewmates can then tell each other where the imposter is, giving their fellow players a bit of a head start on running. Feel free to let your ghosts keep an open mic and use task settings to increase or decrease difficulty based on your game's outcomes.

Another fun twist to the game is having the imposter sabotage communications rather than lights. This makes being a crewmate a bit more frantic as you don’t know what your tasks are and will have to search for them, but with extended vision, crewmates still have a chance of running away. It’s recommended to play this one with open mics for everyone but the imposter. Once there are 2-3 crew remaining alive, you are free to fix communications to see what tasks you’ve been missing. Try changing tasks to 1 common and 3 short for this mode, as it really does become chaotic with communications down.

Try out the option of letting crewmates report bodies to help save each other from being killed. Make sure everyone still skips to vote during the body report meetings. This game mode is due to make some memorable stories among friends, and although it remains a custom game mode, hopefully, it will be officially added to the game.
