Writer and artist Amy Reeder's upcoming Amethyst series will introduce Phoss, a new character, to the DC Universe.

In an interview with CBR, Reeder discussed Phoss, saying, "I can't wait for everyone to meet Phoss. Creating new characters is always on my radar; it's fun and necessary to keep things fresh. I got a chance to do this at Marvel with Moon Girl, and I'm so glad she took off the way she did. For the sake of this miniseries Phoss is tied to Gemworld only, but I would love if she really takes off into the general DCU. Is it strange that I haven't thought about that yet?"

"Phoss is the first new teen friend Amy makes, a commoner from Turquoise, the warrior realm," Reeder continued. "She's maybe a little too easy going, and too honest, but she's a great foil to Princess Amethyst and keeps her grounded. Oh and no biggie, but Phoss is a lesbian animal lover with four forearms and she rides a giant caterpillar named Stan. WHATEVER. Anyway, the strength of friendship is a major element to the story, so you'll see a lot of Phoss and that other upcoming character, Maxixe.

Created by Dan Mishkin, Gary Cohn and Ernie Colón in 1983's Legion of Super-Heroes #298, Amethyst is also known as Amy Winston. The hero's original adventure saw her discover her lineage as the princess of the House of Amethyst on Gemworld and pitted her against the villainous Dark Opal, who killed her parents.

You can read the plot synopsis for Amethyst #1 below.
