Of all the horror sub-genres to thrill audiences in cinemas throughout the 1980s, the biggest was the slasher, popularized by franchises like Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween.

For its upcoming ninth season, the FX horror anthology series American Horror Story will take viewers back in time to the summer of 1984 in its own twisted spin on the horror sub-genre. Retitled American Horror Story: 1984 for Season 9, FX has released a pair of ominous teasers directly homaging the Friday the 13th franchise.

The teasers hint at the summertime setting as a group of carefree teens travel to Camp Redwood, set on a picturesque lake, and are unwittingly stalked by a hulking, masked figure wielding a particularly nasty-looking knife. The second teaser sees the stalker emerge from the lake, directly referencing the finale to the original Friday the 13th film.

As a love letter to 1980s slasher flicks, the upcoming season is sure to be an inevitably bloody one as the summer of 1984 will be one none of these campers or counselors will ever forget.
