With its core cast of heavy-hitters — from Jessica Lange to Kathy Bates — well-establish, the latest iteration of FX’s American Horror Story is expanding its youth appeal.
The Hollywood Reporter has word that actress Skyler Samuels will join FX’s hit anthology series for its upcoming fourth season, Freak Show. Although her part remains largely a mystery, the website does identify her as a local Florida girl who gets caught up in the carnival sideshow run by Lange’s Elsa Mars.
Samuels has starred in a number of TV projects, most notably in ABC Family’s young-adult series The Nine Lives of Chloe King.
After debuting its first full trailer, Freak Show seems ready to spin its story of 1950s horror. Joining Lange and Bates’ bearded lady will be Michael Chiklis as strong man Wendell Del Toro; Sarah Paulson as conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler; Angela Bassett as the three-breasted woman; plus Evan Peters and Emma Roberts. Frances Conroy and Gabourey Sidibe will also return as the series welcomes newcomers John Carroll Lynch, Patti LaBelle, Wes Bentley, Finn Wittrock and Jyoti Amge.
American Horror Story premieres Oct. 8 on FX.
