American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed FX's horror anthology is getting a spinoff series.

Murphy gathered some of the show's most iconic cast members for a quarantine Zoom call and posted a screenshot on Instagram to announce American Horror Stories. According to the caption, the spinoff will consist of one-hour, self-contained, episodes. The Zoom call wasn't public, though Murphy said it also included an update on when Season 10 will start filming and "other stuff I cannot print."

Murphy didn't reveal any further details on what American Horror Stories will be about or who will star. However, notable stars on the call included Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett and Denis O'Hare. Although Season 10 newcomer Macaulay Culkin wasn't part of the line-up, Jessica Lange was there, despite having finished with the series following a cameo in Apocalypse.

American Horror Story premiered in 2011 and quickly gained a cult. After seasons involving on everything from mental asylums to freak shows and summer camp slashers, 2019's American Horror Story: 1984 averaged 1.31 million viewers. Although this gave Season 9 the lowest average ratings in the show's run, it was one of the most crtiically acclaimed.

Only recently, Murphy revealed American Horror Story Season 10 could be in trouble due to COVID-19 and he might have to rethink the season's theme or hold off filming until next year. That being said, the show has been renewed through to Season 13. With news of the multi-season order and now American Horror Stories, there's still plenty to come from Murphy and Brad Fulchuk's twisted world of misfits, murderers, and madmen.
