The trailer for Season 2 of Starz' American Gods television series was released on Friday during New York Comic Con. The trailer reveals a massive assembly of gods, both old and new, who are preparing for a coming storm; the war that will decide the fate of the old gods and perhaps serve as their last stand.

American Gods is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by writer Neil Gaiman, who serves as an executive producer on the series. The second season will see most of the first season's cast return, with the exception of Gillian Anderson and Kristin Chenoweth, both of whom departed the series prior to Season 2 going into production.

The actors' departure stems from a leadership shakeup that occurred just after the end of Season 1's run, which saw the series' showrunners, Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, depart the show due to creative differences with the network.

Since then, Season 2's production has been marred by various setbacks, the most recent of which being reports that American Gods' new showrunner, Jesse Alexander, has been sidelined (though not outwardly fired) and that production is in disarray. Said disarray includes claims that Alexander has gotten into shouting matches with members of the cast and scripts have been rewritten on the fly.

The second season of American Gods is set to debut on Starz sometime in 2019.
