Ricky Whittle is about to watch his second season of the Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods hit the air, but he has his eyes set much higher. In fact, he has his eyes turned to the stars.

The former American Gods co-showrunner and Logan screenwriter Michael Green said last year that he wanted Whittle to take on the role of John Stewart in the DCEU. Now, Whittle has chimed in and told SYFY WIRE that he would love to portray Green Lantern in a movie.

"The character Green Lantern needs to be reborn," Whittle said. "I'd love to be a part of that universe, whether it be John Stewart or Simon Baz, maybe. They are both characters I would be honored to play."

Whittle even has a knowledge of the workings in the DCEU right now, saying he knows that a Green Lantern Corps movie is coming but that the powers that be are taking their time with it. He said that the problem with the first Green Lantern movie was that it was rushed, and now, he believes it is in good hands with Geoff Johns.

"Whatever he does, I'll be watching it, no matter what," Whittle said.

Before that happens, the second season of American Gods is heading to Starz. Whittle stars on the show as Shadow Moon, the right-hand man to Odin himself in a way between the gods of yesterday and the gods of today.
