On March 29, American Gods announced it won't be returning for a fourth season.

Shortly after its cancellation, Neil Gaiman -- who wrote the novel that inspired the series, and also served as an executive producer on the Starz TV series -- took to Twitter to confirm that the show isn't "dead yet." Now, the show's production company contributed its thoughts, stating, "Fremantle is committed to completing the epic journey that is American Gods, one of TV’s most inclusive series with the most amazing fans across the globe," to Deadline.

The production company added, "With Neil Gaiman and this fantastic cast and crew, we are exploring all options to continue to tell this magnificent story."

When Gaiman first replied to the news that American Gods would not be receiving a fourth season on Starz, he stated, "It's definitely not dead. I'm grateful to the team at @Starz for the American Gods journey so far. Fremantle (who make AG) are committed to finishing the story that began in episode 1, and right now we're all just waiting to see which way forward is best."

Gaiman's comments confirmed what Starz shared after it broke the news that American Gods would be canceled after its third season. When American Gods' cancellation was announced, the network suggested it was in talks with Fremantle about how to best end American Gods. Although it hasn't been confirmed, yet, Starz is open to either a televised movie-event or a series-event to wrap up American Gods' storyline.

During its three-season run, American Gods had four different showrunners -- with creatives leaving the series due to differing opinions on the storyline, budgeting issues for the story's scope and tensions between Fremantle and Gaiman.
