American Dad!’s resident alien Roger Smith is the king of personas. Seamlessly switching disguises in a matter of seconds, he has the residents of Langley Falls believing whatever he wants them to. To keep track of his costumed shenanigans, the lovable alien keeps a ledger of all the people he knows and the aliases they know him as. While Roger’s never-ending carousel of outfits is impressive, Francine often gives him a run for his money when it comes to successfully pulling off a disguise.

In American Dad! Season 2’s "Camp Refoogee," Roger and Francine hit the town as a married couple. However, the situation gets out of hand when, pretending to be a professor and his wife, the duo invites a like-minded couple to dinner. Roger is surprised at how good Francine is at role-playing, and the story quickly turns into a parody of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? complete with a bloody fight that wrecks the Smith house.

American Dad - Francine _Fartbreak Hotel_

Setting the scene for Season 6’s "Fart-Break Hotel," the Smith family checks into a hotel where Francine discovers she's never really taken the time to get in touch with herself. The realization prompts her to assume the identity of Sarah Blanch, a recently deceased concrete saleswoman. Francine’s shockingly good at the job, making more of an impact than Roger, who is also in attendance as salesman Pete Pendelman. After becoming completely absorbed in her character, Francine decides to give up her family and former life to pursue a new career as Sarah in Portland, Oregon. Although she eventually comes to her senses thanks to a time-travel spoof.

But Francine’s most successful alias is in Season 9’s "Can I Be Frank (With You)," where her disguise is so convincing, it even fools her husband. When Stan starts spending a lot of time with his friends at the CIA Chill Zone, Francine worries they are growing apart as a couple. To fix the situation, she disguises herself as one of the guys and befriends Stan. After a while, Stan starts to suspect that his new buddy is a spy. This revelation leads to him harming his wife and almost killing her.

Francine’s disguise skills are rather impressive, especially since she doesn’t take her personas as seriously as Roger does. Even when they ultimately fail, it’s usually because somebody else messed up her plan or revealed her true identity. By contrast, Roger’s personas tend to get out of hand all on their own.

That said, there’s a simple explanation as to why Francine’s personas are more successful than Roger’s. When Francine puts on a disguise, it's usually for a specific purpose. While Roger, no matter how serious he is about it or who gets caught up in the masquerade, just uses them to deal with the boredom of being stuck in the house all day. He essentially dresses up as different people and creates pretend jobs to go to, and the Smith’s indulge him by going along with it.
