AMC’s ‘The Killing’ Canceled … Again

A little more than a year after AMC canceled The Killing the first time, the cable network is doing it again.

“We have made the difficult decision not to move forward with a fourth season of The Killing,” AMC said in a statement to Deadline. “We want to thank our great partners at Fox Television Studios, creator Veena Sud, an extraordinary cast and the dedicated fans who watched.”

The network pulled the plug on the crime drama, which starred Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, in July 2012 after a lackluster second season, only to reverse its decision in mid-January. However, the third season, which followed the investigation into a gruesome string of murders with a connection to an old case, averaged just 1.525 million, down slightly from Season 2.

Based on the Danish crime drama Forbrydelsen (“The Crime”), The Killing provided a boost to the careers of stars Enos, who landed roles in Gangster Squad and World War Z, and Kinnaman, who was cast in the lead role of the RoboCop remake.
