On May 7, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed a controversial new abortion bill into state law, significantly restricting abortion access. In response, several production companies and studios have voiced their disapproval and indicated they may reevaluate fill-in the state including AMC, the network behind The Walking Dead.

In response to the new law, which bans abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, AMC has issued a statement that the network may reevaluate its production activity in Georgia, having filmed all nine seasons of the Image Comics adaptation in the town of Senoia and around the greater Atlanta metropolitan area.

"If this highly restrictive legislation goes into effect, we will reevaluate our activity in Georgia," declared a spokesman for AMC in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "Similar bills – some even more restrictive – have passed in multiple states and have been challenged. This is likely to be a long and complicated fight and we are watching it all very closely."

Disney CEO Bob Iger had issued a similar statement regarding the studio's production activity in Georgia after the law, with WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal also reevaluating their respective professional relationships with producing film and television in the state.
