In early 2015, AMC and Next Games will release a new mobile game based on “The Walking Dead” television series timed to coincide with the launch of the show’s fifth season. “The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land,” announced on Tuesday, will feature similar themes to the TV series — meaning players will presumably attempt to survive in a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies, bringing out the best — or worst — in humanity.
“Our approach is to stay true to the main themes of the TV show: survival strategy, finding safety for your people, balancing between right and wrong and, of course, action when it comes to fighting against the hordes of walkers. We respect the creators of ‘The Walking Dead’ immensely and want this game to portray the world they have created as closely as possible,” Next Games CEO Teemu Huuhtanen said via press release.
AMC and Next Games also released a full trailer for “The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land,” which features computer-generated survivors struggling to escape an isolated building with a horde of walkers approaching.
AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has had a history in video games before — most notably “The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct,” which ended up a critical flop for both AMC and developer Terminal Reality (the game has an aggregate score of 34 on Metacritic). “The Walking Dead” has a healthy presence on mobile platforms with Skybound and Gamagio’s “The Walking Dead: Assault” and Telltale Games’ iOS version of its critically acclaimed “The Walking Dead” video game, but “No Man’s Land” will be the first mobile game developed in conjunction with the television series, and the first project launched by Next Games, which includes veterans from Rovio (“Angry Birds”), Supercell (“Clash of Clans”) and Disney.
“The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land” is slated for an early 2015 release.
