Amber Heard's time playing Mera in the DC Extended Universe is not over yet.

A spokesperson for the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star has denied claims that Heard is being removed from the superhero film. "The rumor mill continues as it has from day one -- inaccurate, insensitive and slightly insane," Heard's rep told Variety. Just Jared recently reported that Warner Bros. had opted to drop Heard from Lost Kingdom, the upcoming sequel to 2018's Aquaman, and recast the role of Mera. However, Just Jared subsequently amended its report, stating it's been told that Heard "has not been completely cut from the film. She still has a very small role."

Lost Kingdom will mark Heard's fourth time playing Mera, the warrior princess and love interest of Momoa's Arthur Curry/Aquaman, in the DCEU. The actor made her debut as Mera in 2017's Justice League, before reprising her role in Aquaman. She also appeared in Zack Snyder's 2021 director's cut of Justice League. Heard's ongoing involvement in the Aquaman franchise was brought up several times during her ex-husband Johnny Depp's defamation trial against the actor. The negative press Heard received from the trial led to the revival of an online fan petition calling for Warner Bros. to remove the actor from the Aquaman sequel.

Although Heard is still in Lost Kingdom, once again, her role has been described as "very small." The actor had previously confirmed the size of Mera's role in the upcoming film when she testified during the defamation trial. She explained that her role had been "pared-down" over multiple script revisions, severely reducing her character's role in the upcoming sequel. "I was given a script. Then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving any spoilers away," she said. "Two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch."
