The legal maneuvering Amber Heard and her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, continues, as the Aquaman star pushes to get discovery from both the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and The Walt Disney Co. ahead of the $50 defamation lawsuit filed by the Pirates of the Caribbean star after Heard wrote an opinion piece in the Washington Post in December 2018 alleging that Depp had physically abused her.

Depp's biggest box office success as an actor has come in the Disney Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and it was actually learning that he was not being considered for a role in the upcoming reboot of the franchise that led the actor to sue his ex-wife for defamation, as he believed that her article damaged his reputation badly enough for him to lose out of a chance to continue to play Captain Jack Sparrow.

Depp was still married to Heard when he was filming the last Pirates of the Caribbean film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, and the filming in Australia was delayed when Depp had to return to the United States to have surgery on his hand after Depp was injured during an altercation with Heard (Depp claims Heard cut the tip of his finger off and Heard claims Depp accidentally cut it off himself). Thus, Heard and her lawyers want “all information relating to documents and communications of any nature” on Depp and “incidents of drug or alcohol use (including suspected drug or alcohol use).” Similarly, they are looking for any information about “any delays or tardiness caused by Mr. Depp,” “any incidents of violence or abuse by Mr. Depp,” any info on impute the actor had or “hiring, casting,” and “disagreements with the writers, directors or producers with the filming, editing and/or release of Pirates 5.”

Heard's lawyers are actually trying to get a video deposition with a Disney executive, as well.

The discovery request from the LAPD is everything that the police have on file regarding a May altercation between Heard and Depp that led to Heard receiving a restraining order against Depp. Depp has long claimed that all altercations in their marriage were Heard's fault, so the police files on these incidents would be a big boon to Heard if they support her version of events and not Depp's take on things. Interestingly, Heard's team is also asking the police for "“all documents and communications of any nature with Mr. Depp, and/or any of Mr. Depp’s agents, attorneys or others acting on his behalf, from May 21, 2016 through the present," suggesting that they believe that Depp or his lawyers have tried to contact the police themselves since that incident.
