Saving the world can be tiring, and even the greatest heroes can use a little R & R.

Amber Heard, who plays Mera in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), posted a throwback photo of herself on Instagram taking a nap while dressed in her superhero costume. "Forgot my pyjamas," the Aquaman star wrote as the caption.

Heard made her DCEU debut as Mera in 2017's theatrical cut of Justice League. She reprised the role in James Wan's Aquaman, co-starring alongside Jason Momoa's titular hero. She is set to return to the part in Aquaman 2, which is scheduled to release in theaters on Dec. 16, 2022. Her Justice League role was also recently expanded in Zack Snyder's Justice League, and she appeared in the film's epilogue, also known as Knightmare.

Aquaman 2 is set to begin filming this summer in London under the reported working title Necrus, and the film has started to round out its cast. Pilou Asbaek, who portrayed the sea captain Euron Greyjoy on Game of Thrones, joined the sequel in an undisclosed role. Meanwhile, returning cast members Heard and Patrick Wilson are hard at work getting back into shape for the superhero sequel.

Aside from Aquaman 2, DC had plans to spin out the horror film The Trench, which would have followed the horrifying creatures Mera and Aquaman fought off in the first Aquaman film. The movie was eventually canceled, along with Ava DuVernay's New Gods. However, Warner Bros. and DC indicated that these projects could return to the slate in the future but would remain shut down for now.

DC and Warner Bros. still have big plans for the DCEU. Confirmed future films include The Suicide Squad (Aug. 6), Black Adam (July 29, 2022), The Flash (Nov. 4, 2022) and Shazam! Fury of the Gods (June 2, 2023). Also in development are Batgirl, Static ShockBlue BeetleZatanna and Wonder Woman 3. DC is also working on a Peacemaker HBO Max TV series, which will spin out of the events of The Suicide Squad.

Outside the DCEU, Warner Bros. is working on its next Batman film starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. There are also plans for Justice League Dark and Green Lantern TV shows for HBO Max.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman 2 stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dolph Lundgren and Pilou Asbaek. The film arrives in theaters Dec. 16, 2022.
