After a years-long development process, a TV show based on The Wheel of Time, a high fantasy book series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, will be coming to life soon, thanks to Amazon.
Development on the series was delayed before it was ordered by Amazon Studios, partnering with Sony Pictures Television. Now, a listing of shows currently in development indicates that it will begin production in September this year, as reported by Tor, the publisher of the Wheel of Time book series.

The Wheel of Time, which stretches across 14 lengthy novels, was first published in 1990 and is considered a cornerstone of modern epic fantasy. The series is set in a universe where only women can use magic. The saga story follows a group of young villagers as they come to terms with their own powers while being drawn into a worldwide conflict.
According to the synopsis of the show in the listing, the show features that familiar setting and follows Moiraine, who is "a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the Aes Sedai." Along with Moiraine, the show will focus on five young men and women, one of whom could be the reincarnation of an ancient power that could either save or destroy the world.

As the franchise's title suggest, the series also focuses on the cyclical nature of time and draws heavily from European and Asian culture and philosophy, particularly Buddhism and Hinduism.
The listing also reveals the first shooting location for the show: Prague, capital city of the Czech Republic, which is popular for historical or fantasy settings due to the medieval appearance of some of its architecture.
Rafe Judkins will be the series' showrunner and executive producer. Other producers include Rick Selvage, Larry Mondragon, Ted Field, Mike Weber, Darren Lemke, and the late Jordan's wife Harriet McDougal, who was also his editor and who personally selected Brandon Sanderson to co-write the last three books in the series after Jordan's death in 2007.
The still-unnamed Wheel of Time series will premiere on Amazon Prime but sill doesn't have a release date.
