As preproduction continues on Amazon's adaptation of Robert Jordan's popular The Wheel of Time fantasy book series, the studio has signed an acclaimed director to helm the first two episodes of the adaptation.

Uta Briesewitz, who previously directed episodes of Jessica Jones and Westworld, will helm the first two episodes with principal photography expected to begin sometime this September. Briesewitz's most recent work includes directing episodes for the upcoming third season of Stranger Things.

First published in 1990, Jordan's The Wheel of Time series was told across fourteen novels with co-author Brandon Sanderson. The fantasy world saw a realm where women could wield magic with the inhabitants of a small village being drawn into a larger, more epic conflict threatening their world.

Amazon ordered an adaptation of the series this past October, with the series developed for television by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. writer Rafe Judkins and expected to film in Eastern Europe, including the Czech Republic capital of Prague. Judkins will also serve as the series' showrunner and executive producer with Jordan's widow, Harriet McDougal serving as a consulting producer. No premiere date has been officially been announced by Amazon at this time.
